Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Natural Resource Damage Assessment

A breakwater is intended to reduce the height of waves approaching the shoreline. Wave height reduction results in less energy impacting the shoreline and other areas behind the breakwater. The intent of the breakwaters in the Pensacola Bay Living Shoreline Project is to provide protection for the newly created salt marsh habitat and to provide areas for oyster reef habitat growth.
