The Moon• The moon is the brightest object in the

sky other than the Sun

• The phases are caused by its relative position to the Sun and Earth as it revolves around the Earth

• Position of the moon changes each day

• Goes through all the phases approximately every 28 days

• Blue moon: two full Moons during the same month

Integration • Science: creating the Moon phases using

Oreos

• Math: proportions with the Moon phases

• Social Studies: first mission to the Moon, Neil Armstrong

• ELA: creative writing piece about a mission to the Moon

Integration cont.•Music: songs about the phases of

the Moon, make their own song

•Art: make a moon phase mobile, drawing the Moon phases

•Movement: “Solar dance”, Moon dance, Moon walk

Safety Concerns•Oreo lesson- teacher should monitor

and assist students with using the plastic knife

•Listening to directions

•Pencils are not to be used as weapons or swords!

•Teacher should be aware of student health needs/allergies
