LOCATION HAS ITS BENEFITS
Baltimore and Maryland are considered by many as the social work center of the nation. With its close proximity to the nation’s policy center and capital (Washington, DC is less than an hour away) and its quick access to the major metropolitan areas of Philadelphia and New York, Baltimore has a lot to offer our PhD students. Located at a major university in an urban center,
students have extensive opportunities for learning in an area rich with recreational activities when there is time to relax.

Deciding to relocate to attend this program was the biggest decision I have made but also the most
rewarding and one that I will never regret.

The physical location of the school is a real asset. The School of Social Work is on an urban campus, thus the City of Baltimore serves as a learning lab on issues related to poverty, social justice, and social change. Many PhD
students are actively involved in research projects concerning nearby schools, neighborhoods, and organizations. In addition, our proximity to College Park,
Johns Hopkins, and other universities offers ample opportunities for cross-campus, interdisciplinary collaboration and learning.
