I first heard about Worcester Polytechnic Institute from a lecture given by a senior student who was admitted to WPI and referred it as a small-but-excellent and cost-effective institution. In addition, my father told me that WPI enjoyed a high reputation in the New England area’s industry and was noted for its engineering school even in China. Therefore, I developed an interest in WPI and did some further investigation.

I am impressed by WPI for the following reasons. First of all, with a small population of graduate students, there are bigger possibilities for me to communicate with professors and

work in laboratories,比如说你特别对哪位或者哪几位教授研究的东西感兴趣？或者哪个

实验室感兴趣？ receiving a better quality of graduate education. Secondly, I am interested

in microelectronics related to wireless communication which is the highlight of WPI.

Moreover, 这后面的东西不是和第一条所要表达的东西重复了吗 留一个即可 I am

attracted by Prof. John McNeill’s Analog Lab and Prof. Xinming Huang’s Embedded Computing Laboratory because they could offer me opportunities in mixed (analog and digital) IC designs. Especially I would anticipate acquiring some industry experiences and doing further research on circuits covering wireless systems from the teaching of Prof. Huang. Last but not least, WPI’s Career Development Center provides various professional methods to provide students with job and intern opportunities such as Mock Interviews and Summer Internship Programs, plus the favorable employment situation in the northeastern area, my possibilities to my career in United States may be higher. In conclusion, I dream of a pleasant living in Worcester-“Heart of the Commonwealth” and look for a bright future in this beautiful city.

2. Do you feel that your college grades are an accurate reflection of your potential for

To some extent, my college grades are good indications of my academic performance, however, there are other aspects that could contribute to my future success at WPI.

I’m always a believer of “Practice makes perfect”. To realize an airline booking system in C language, I would search books and sample programs to figure out all the arrays and nest loops for a week until my program could be operated; to be familiar with characteristics and

usages of electronic components in my internship, I have gathered hundreds of datasheets of major manufacturers and read them through one by one. Due to my hard work, I have got high marks on my professional courses including data structure, automatic control theory, embedded system, etc.

When I designed a function generator, I turned it into reality by devising circuit, Multisim simulation, choosing components, layout and repeatedly debugging. As a result of listing out some possible kinds of differential amplifiers and tried them one by one in simulation software, I was among the first ones to figure out the most suitable circuit layout plan and electronic components. In my point of view, the ability of designing independently and the courage of continuance trying made me stand out from other students.

Furthermore, I have come into contact with LED designs and electronic components which are used in mass production in GE lighting apartment. When I worked on the program about LED drivers , I obtained the skills to prioritize complicated tasks to ensure system delivery on time and to be an energetic team player with good interpersonal skills. Every workday I shuttled between component engineers and layout engineers discussing the characteristics of each electronic part and coordinating my time to take good care of both debugging and initiating BOM information. My work helped to keep the component management database working on track and provide updated information for all the GE engineers around the world.
