GUEST LECTURERS
Dr Matthias Lehmann
is a Professor and Direc-tor of the Institute for International Private and Comparative Law at the University of Bonn. His research focuses in particular on Europe-an and international private law, commercial and financial market law. Dr Lehmann is a member of the Academ-ic Board of the Europe-an Banking Institute in Frankfurt. He has got his PhD from Fried-rich-Schiller-University of Jena and he holds a Doctor of the Science of Law (J.S.D.) from Colum-bia University.
Lecture: Blockchain and smart contracts: The vexed problem of the applicable law
Dr Tommaso Agasistiis an Associate Professor at Politecnico di Milano School of Management, Department of Man-agement, Economics & Industrial Engineer-ing. His research activ-ity is focused on Public Economics, Finance and Management, and the mainstream is in the field of economics and management of educa-tional services. He holds a PhD in Management Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano.
Lecture: Measuring the efficiency of public sector organizations - evidence from analyses of secondary and tertiary education institutions
Dr Diana DiNitto is a Distinguished Teach-ing Professor and the Cullen Trust Centennial Professor in Alcohol Studies and Education at The University of Texas at Austin Steve Hicks School of Social Work. Her teaching and research interests are in social welfare policy and alcohol and drug problems. She holds a Master’s in Social Work and PhD in Government from Florida State Uni-versity.

Dr Daniel Horn is a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Economics, Research Centre for Economic and Regional Studies, Hungarian Academy of Science and an Asso-ciate Professor at the Economics Department of the Eötvös Lóránd University Budapest. His research focuses on the effectiveness and inequality of educa-tion systems, effects of institutions, and performance measure-ment issues in educa-tion. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the Central European University.
Lecture: The long run effects of educational selection: Evidence from two natural experiments
Dr Mirosław Szreder is a Professor at the Department of Statis-tics, and the Dean of the Faculty of Manage-ment at the University of Gdansk. He special-izes in developing and applying quantitative methods in economics and social sciences. His main research inter-ests cover: sampling techniques, Bayesian inference, opinion polls, and various kinds of sur-vey-based research.
Lecture: Statistical surveys in the era of Big Data
Dr Ari Kokko is a Professor at the Department of Interna-tional Economics and Management at Copen-hagen Business School and Director of the School’s Asia Research Centre. In 2017-18, he is also Malmsten Visiting Professor at the School of Business, Economics, and Law at Gothenburg University. He holds a PhD in Economic Sci-ences from Stockholm School of Economics. Laura Põldvere started her career in 2005, when she participated in Eurovision Song Contest (Estonian final) with the song “Moonwalk”. In 2007 Laura started her studies at Berklee College of Music (Boston) and then continued the jazz path at Freiburg Rock & Jazz Schule in Germany.
She received her bachelor’s degree in jazz vocals and master’s degree in Contemporary Improvisation at the Estonian Academy of Music & Theatre. She has released 3 pop albums and 2 jazz albums and has been the mostplayed artist in Estonia during the past 15 years. Laura’s jazzalbum LP “Memories

This interactive 4-hours seminar will address the following topics:
1. Qualities of effective dissertation supervision,
2. Concerns of students and supervisors in the dissertation process,
3. Mentoring styles and the roles supervisors may play at various points in the dissertation process,
4. Approaches to addressing individual, institutional, and environmental challenges in the dissertation process, including ways to help students maintain motivation and complete a high quality dissertation in a timely manner.

Besides being active in the jazz and pop scene, she has collaborated with contemporary classical composers (Märt-Matis Lill / Kristjan Blak / Marianna Liik / etc) and the free improvisation scene. Collaboration with Han Bennink has taken her to perform in the Netherlands quite a bit. She has taken part in numerous improvisation workshops held in Switzerland, Finland, England, the Baltic countries, Sweden, Denmark, etc.

PRACTICAL GUIDE TO DIFFERENT WORKING FORMATS
Guest lectureGuest lecturers are welcome to organize presentations according to their will, but we kindly ask to keep at least 15 minutes in the end of the lecture for questions and discussion.
Doctoral working paper sessionWorking paper sessions are organized in two parallels.
The guidelines for presenters and reviewersPresentation of the paper should last 15 minutes, followed by discussion with re-viewer. Reviewer has 10 minutes to discuss the paper. Presentation fi nishes with ques-tions from the audience (max. 5 minutes). Speakers are asked to adhere to the given time constraints.
The guidelines for chairsSession chairs are asked to keep presen-tations of the papers to 15 minutes in length, with an additional 10 minutes for discussion and 5 minutes for the questions from the audience. The total time devoted to each presentation is 30 minutes.
The best paper awardDoctoral working papers in the area of Economics and Business Administration will compete for the best paper award giv-en by the Estonian Economic Association. The award will be handed over during the gala dinner.
PhD students have the opportunity to introduce their research ideas with help of posters. During the session authors are asked to stand next to their poster and talk about their work with everyone who is interested. Questions and active discussion from all participants of the summer school are expected.
Workshop for supervisors “The Art of Doctoral Student Supervision”This 4-hours interactive seminar will address all supervisors.
Public voting for the best posterPoster session will end with voting for the best poster. All summer school partici-pants are welcome to attend the voting. The best poster award will be handed over during the gala dinner.

Visual improvisation workshop „PhD Life is Wild“As part of the summer school social programme this workshop is arranged in mixed groups in open air. All participants are extremely welcome to attend. Necessary ecquipment: desire to contribute into PhD life, openness, good communication skills, thinking outside the box and desire to have fun. All groups will present their ideas in the given format. The best presentation will be awarded.
