The Down and Dirty Details on Achieving Meaningful Usewith MEDITECH

Now that we have the final rule on what meaningful use is, thereal work begins. There are a thousand places you can go tofind out who qualifies for what incentives but what do weneed to do to get from here to there with MEDITECH?

There are standards to build and map, features and modules toimplement and quality measures to configure, train physicianson and report.

Denni McColm from Citizens Memorial Healthcare will dig into these details: The first step assessing your situation and identifying gaps Formulating a project plan and timeline to address those gaps (yes, even Citizens

Memorial has gaps) Measure by measure information that you need to know about Quality reporting resources, tips and tricks The work to expect in implementing the MEDITECH Meaningful Use Priority Pack

Denni McColm is Chief Information Officer for Citizens Memorial Healthcare. Denni has been atCitizens Memorial since 1988, serving as Director of Human Resources and Director of Financebefore moving into the CIO role in June, 2003. Denni served on the Certification Commission forHealth Information Technology as a Commissioner from 2006-2008. Join us for a variety of MEDITECH 6.0 educational presentations, anchored by a slate ofsessions offered by experts from Doylestown Hospital.

Doylestown Hospital is a 247-bed comprehensive, community-focused healthcare facility serving patients and families in the northern suburban communities of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A

Beta Site for the MEDITECH 6.0 platform, Doylestown Hospital chose to convert from MAGIC toClient Server, and take on the additional challenge of being the first migration to hybrid NPR5.6/ 6.0 platform.

101 - Scanning and Archiving Converting from Magic to Client ServerPresenter: Sandra OsborneOrganization: Doylestown Hospital, Doylestown, Pennsylvania

Abstract: This presentation will describe the process of converting from Magic to Client Serverin scanning and archiving. Highlights:

Magic archiving projects for each module, along with customs to not purge the data, arerequired to provide data that will be converted to Client Server. Magic scanned datafrom point of contact, medical records, and business office scanning also need to beconverted for access in Client Server.

Access to the Magic archive and scanned data through a link to PCI is required in ClientServer until all conversions are completed.

Conversion projects are required from each Magic module to Client Server to providethe appropriate indices, key data, for the archived documents in order for the ClientServer conversion program to identify the data appropriately.

A third party is required to extract the data from Magic OD for the Client Serverconversion programs.

The converted data is then available through an archive link in the EMR chart, and datathat is not part of the chart, for instance business office scanned documents, is availablethrough an access in MIS.

In her role as Senior Clinical Systems Analyst, Sandra Osborne is responsible for supporting theMEDITECH administrative applications and the conversion from MAGIC to MEDITECH 6.0. She isalso the Project Lead for the Scanning and Archiving project in MAGIC and the subsequent

conversion to Client Server from a third-party vendor software solution.

112 - Work Process Automation StrategiesPresenter: Bryan DonovanOrganization: BizTech Healthcare

Abstract: Historically, healthcare has been a paper and process intensive environment. The

majority of MEDITECH hospitals have some type of paper scanning and document managementsystem. These systems are the building blocks for powerful work process automation solutions. This presentation is an examination of one such solution that is in use at a MEDITECH hospitalin Massachusetts. The solution has been in production for years and it has eliminated 48 hoursout of the ED Billing process for this hospital.

The document management industry, outside of healthcare, has been a major advocate forprocess automation. The leading trade organization in the document management industry,AIIM (Association for Information and Image Management) is a tremendous source ofinformation on the topic of business process automation inside healthcare and beyond.

Work Process Automation solutions vary but the principles of process automation areconsistent: Deliver an information package to end users that contains a specific combination

of MEDITECH data and scanned images required for that users task. Unify multiple systems at the presentation level to end users and send the data

where it is needed behind the scenes. Let knowledge workers, like coders for example, enter charges, apply codes and

abstract records within a unified desktop view and have the process automationsystem push data into MEDITECH BAR, MEDITECH Abstract and third-party encodersdownstream to fulfill the required data flow and billing process.

The design goals for process automation applications are tangible and quantifiable. They shouldinclude such things as:

Eliminating a percentage of data entry or mouse clicks Reducing user data entry errors by a certain percentage Increasing daily end user transactions by a certain percentage Reducing overnight batch processing whenever possible

See the type of solutions that other industries (banking, insurance & utilities) have been usingfor years to reduce operating costs and improve user productivity. Learn how these same typesof solutions are now being used within the MEDITECH community and their impact for

operational efficiencies and improved cash flow.

Bryan Donovan is the Sales & Marketing Manager for BizTech Healthcare. He has over 14 yearsof experience in the document imaging and workflow industry. He has been with BizTech foreight years and previously worked for Digital Equipment Corporation and Keyfile Corporation. He is a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer and a frequent speaker on the topic of healthcare process automation. Recent speaking engagements include 2009 International MUSEConference, 2009 ILHIMA Annual Conference, and 2008 NEHIMA Six States Annual Conference.
