On a Friday night, the PCP-CV Chapter had a “3-in-1” special occasion. The first part was the General Assembly. Outgoing Chapter President Dr. Jane Galang presented the major events of the past year followed by the Treasurer’s Report of Dr. Bernardita Chua.

The second part of the program went with the theme: Shining, Shimmering, Splendid! And indeed for starters, majority came with something “S” on. A program highlight was the Recognition of Past Chapter Presidents, wherein each Past Chapter President was acknowledged by being given a PCP pin, personally put on by Dr. Galang, assisted by Dr. Mitzi Chua. It was a very meaningful sight to see the Past Presidents all gathered up front and recognized by the Body.

The third highlight of the program was the Induction of the Officers and Members of the Board for 2013-2014, which was done by no less than PCP National President Dr. Priscilla Caguioa, also in her metallic shimmering attire! The rest of the evening was a delight to the ears and eyes, as talented singing and dancing doctors presented various numbers.

Target achieved: 7 sessions covering the fields of (1) neurology (headaches); (2) multi disciplinary preoperative evaluation (cardiac, pulmonary, hematologic clearances; anesthesia viewpoint, medico-legal issues); (3) geriatrics (mental health, dying); (4) pulmonary-radiologic correlation; (5) gastroenterology (fatty liver); (6) endocrinology (pre-diabetes management); (7) medical ethics (See Appendix A for Full Program.)

OBJECTIVE 2: Generate a Chapter CME guideline for collaborating events and request for corresponding PCP CME units Strategy: Draft guidelines based on the PCP national regulations and the Cebu Medical Society (CMS) CME guidelines Draft of the PCP-CV CME guidelines Rationale: This need came

about since a number of requests had been received from pharmaceutical industries to have a CME collaboration (i.e. PCP-CV together with [pharma]) and request for CME points.

II. Membership Committee OBJECTIVE 1: Generate an updated Member Database, not only with contact numbers & specialty information, but with data on PRC & PHIC Ids with plan to have a Chapter initiative of reminding renewal dates and auto-processing of Certificates of Good Standing when due for PHIC renewal Strategy: Disseminate a Member Update form, electronically and in print

(See Appendix B.) Target partially achieved: A good number of members did not complete and submit the forms, whether electronically or in print. A factor identified as to this problem was that the form required the numbers and expiration dates of their PRC and PHIC licenses which may not have been immediately available at the time the forms were being filled up. Action plan: Since the coming General Assembly scheduled on June 7, 2014 is a required event, these forms will be made available at the Registration area for filling out and submission on the same day. Also, the forms will be re-sent individually via email.

III. Ways & Means/ Finance/ Collection OBJECTIVE 1: Encourage collection of annual dues through the Chapter so as to avail of 30% rebate Strategy: Provision of an efficient mode of collection

Furthermore, incentive of Health Package (free basic blood chemistries, chest x-ray) will be given to fellows-in-good standing who have paid through the Chapter.

OBJECTIVE 2: Increase Chapter funds to finance the various programs of the Chapter Strategy: Income generation from the annual postgraduate course

OBJECTIVE 1: Develop a program of knowledge enrichment and capacity building Strategy 1.2: Provision of medical updates and case discussion for physicians manning the district hospitals

Adopt-a-DH (district hospital) program

Program objective: To be able to share knowledge on the most recent and locally appropriate evidence-based medical practice with health officers working in a district hospital and thereby help in contributing to the improvement of government health services; that is, a public (DH) – private (PCP-CV) knowledge empowerment collaboration [hospital-based]

Target partially achieved: already with approval from DOH Regional Director to embark on program To be accomplished:

(1) Formal MOA signing between DOH and PCP-CV

(2) Pilot the Adopt-a-DH program at Talisay District Hospital (See Appendix D for details of the Program.)

Comment: Main hurdle why this program did not take off was the Yolanda calamity, wherein the Chapter prioritized Yolanda-related programs instead. (see Section VI & Appendix F)

Will involve the Chapter through the different subspecialty groups

Target not yet achieved: This was suggested since (1) the Chapter already had Research Workshops for Residents the past 2 years with topics on Research Question, Data Analysis and Presentation, Manuscript Writing; and (2) the residents-in-training do not come up with meta analyses but only case reports during their first year of training.

BUDGET: Php 200,000.00 (Php 100,000 from PCP-CV Chapter plus Php 100,000 from PCP National) Seed money of Php 20,000 was given per assigned ATM group. The other expenses over and beyond Php 20,000 was shouldered by the corresponding subspecialty groups.
