Pre-Practicum to Orientation

Courtney, Rachel, Rebecca and Heather travelled to Banaue, Batad and Sagada to see the Philippines’ Rice Terraces
Before our placement our nursing group travelled around the Philippines to see the sights and learn more about the culture.

After hiking 150 meters down into a cave, we swam in an underground river. 3
Jenna and Shelby travelled to El Nido, Puerto Princessa, and Boracay. 4
This is our home! The Imaculada House at St. Michael’s Retreat Centre.
On January 12th we were picked up in Manila by Jocelyn Molo and Maria Luisa Uayan (Louie) and taken to Antipolo City.

We were taken to the Pinto Art Museum for a glimpse of the local talent surrounding Filipino art.

On January 13th, 2014 our first day of our practicum, the University of East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center, Inc.
made us feel so welcome! 7
We were introduced to the President of the University, Dr. Romeo A. Divinagracia. As seen here, the Vice-chairman of the board of Trustees, Wilson T. Young the Consultant for Special Concerns, Carmelita C. Divinagracia, PhD, RN, and the Dean of Nursing, Wilhelmina Z. Atos, PhD, RN accompanied with our Filipino facilitator, Jocelyn Molo MPH, RN and Canadian facilitator, Arlene Kent-Wilkinson RN, PhD

We asked permission from the local government authorities to work in the community.

In the afternoon we took a walking tour of the community we will be working in.

This is one of the health clinics we will be working in, doing things such as immunizations, prenatal checkups, etc.

In order to get to know our “buddies” better, we spent a morning doing team building activities.

One of our activities was to make a team name and cheer. This is Team Saskapinos. 14

To end off the week we attended a seminar at the University of the East with Arlene Kent-Wilkinson as the main speaker! She spoke about her specialty in forensic nursing.
