Going to Puerto Rico influenced me to be a better person mentally and religiously. The

first time I went to Puerto Rico was about 4 months ago, but little did I know I was going to

change my perspective on everything. It started as a summer vacation trip and end up as a total

wake up call. I’m use to me and my friends playing video games staying inside with button

mashing and the smell of competition in the room with quiet nights and even quieter days. From

different ethnicities everywhere you look to everyone being Puerto Rican and Hispanic I know

what your saying of course you are in Puerto Rico, but it blew my mind. I noticed in Puerto Rico

that most people are grateful for what they have and are respectful to everyone, but It was more

like everyone knew how to treat each other. In America we lost sight of being neighborly and

helpful, but the people in Puerto Rico haven’t and that’s refreshing.

Taking this life changing trip influenced me greatly. I felt like i was in a 3rd world country.

Almost every house I saw looked like they were undergoing construction. I didn’t have any

service on my phone or laptop so it was just me in my thoughts. The reason I went to Puerto

Rico in the first place was to see my grandfather and my grandfather isn’t like every other

grandfather hes the most soft spoken gental man you will ever have the privilege to meet. He is

highly religious so that means that all I did was go to church, praying, reading the bible, and

watching church programs on the christian channel. and in a summary that was most of the top,

but even as a bad as it sounds it was amazing. For most teenagerd that would be the worst time

and sure at times it was, but overall it was refreshing to get away from all the distractions. In my

time their that i spent i grew as a christian. I believe that everything happens for a reason and at

that time I was farthest from my religion.

My future could have went down a dark road if I never went to Puerto Rico and I know

once I got cut loose from my parents I would have went crazy doing anything and everything

that would have considered ignorant. College would have been a train wreck if not for my

experience. I know have like every other kid, but not anymore my character is at a all time high

and i know now even though my parents are not going to be with me i’m going to do the right

thing.
