So many choicesDowntown Philadelphia (Center City) has many good restaurants. We have narrowed the fi eld by selecting from (1) Philadelphia Magazine’s list of 50 Best Restaurants in Philadelphia 2017; (2) those receiving two to four stars in 2017 by Craig Laban, the Philadelphia Inquirer’s excellent restaurant critic; and (3) those frequented by your host committee. In the immediate vicinity of the hotel, all options are listed.

Philadelphia was a standout at the 2017 James Beard Awards, receiving honors for most outstanding chef (Michael Solomonov), best chef mid-Atlantic region (Greg Vernick), and best restaurauteur in America (Stephen Starr). Jose Garces, the Iron Chef, won the best chef mid-Atlantic award in 2009. We have included many of their establishments.

For timely eating between sessions, we recommend the Chinatown and Midtown restaurants. Most are within a 15-minute walk.

While Midtown restaurants do not o er discounts, they do o er impressive bargains during happy hour. The Philadelphia Inquirer notes: "Anyone willing to eat early can easily cobble together a complete meal at a deep discount."

In Chinatown, dinner reservations are not necessary. There are many good restaurants within a two-square-block area. If you can’t get into one, you’ll fi nd an equally delicious meal nearby. Elsewhere, reservations are a good idea. Reservations at most restaurants can be booked online through Open Table Philadelphia.

If you are taking an evening o from bridge, we recommend dining in one of Philadelphia’s notable neighborhoods: Rittenhouse Square, the Historic District (Old City and Washington Square) or Society Hill. They are all within one mile of the Marriott.

In addition to the restaurants listed here, you can fi nd more suggestions in the Philadelphia O¥ cial Visitors Guide. A copy is available at our Information Desk. Please consult that guide for restaurants in other popular neighborhoods such as the Parkway Museum District, University City/West Philadelphia, Northern Liberties/Fishtown and South Philadelphia.

Two should be su¥ cient for breakfast; two or three for lunch. Some bakeries are open as early as 5:30 a.m. and as late as 7 p.m.
