108 points!
Principal’s Report
Dear Parents and Carers,
Staff announcements
I’m thrilled to announce some new staff members
who have joined our team.
Susan Flagg has been successful in the merit
selection process and will commence as our new
substantive Assistant Principal from Week 3 next
term. Susan brings a combination of experience and
local knowledge and will make a welcome
contribution to our learning community.
Jenna Woodland will join us working on a
temporary contract until the end of the year
working three days per week with our Widgiewa
class.
Jazlyn Barnes has also been successful in her
application to join us as a School Learning and
Support Officer until the end of the year.
There were no successful applicants for the position
of Aboriginal Education Officer, and we will
readvertise the position during term 3.
Renovations completed
The renovations have now been completed in the
Widgiewa classroom and the K/1 classroom.
Students have moved in over the last couple of days
and are enjoying their new environments.
The K/1 room now has an attached office space for
us to better support small group learning. We will
be able to better manage teachers and learning
support officers work with individual students, and
once the Covid-19 restrictions are relaxed, we look
forward to being able to cater for parent
volunteers.
The poultry shed is nearing completion, with us
currently waiting on some extractor fans to arrive
to complete the space. It will be up and running for
the beginning of next term.
Attendance
To improve communication between the school
and families, we are making daily calls home for all
students who are absent. Whilst siblings can let us
know why their brothers and sisters are absent, an
oral message from them is not an official record
explaining an absence.
Enrolments
We are currently taking enrolments for next year,
including kindergarten 2021. Please contact the
school to receive an enrolment package, or drop in
to pick up a package. I know this is early, however
anticipated enrolment numbers for subsequent
years are submitted very early with the
Department of Education. This helps with planning
future budgets, classes and staffing.
Reports and Parent teacher interviews
School reports will be sent home early next week.
There will be some minor variations on previous
reports, particularly in the primary reports and the
learner profiles. With the Covid-19 restrictions, the
nature of information in reports has changed
slightly.
Parent teacher interviews are available to be
booked, however with the ongoing restrictions we
can only have telephone or video conference
interviews. To book an interview, please go to the
website:
https://www.schoolinterviews.com.au/
and enter the event code 5G7QI. You can also
watch a video on how to book parent teacher
interviews on our Facebook page. Alternatively,
you can contact the front office to arrange a
telephone interview at another time if you prefer.
Best wishes for a restful mid-year break.

Composting at BCS – 1/2/3 Tour of Ag Plot
Why are we composting at BCS?
Composting is great for the planet! It helps us
reduce the amount of rubbish that we bin daily,
lowering the risks of further pollution to the air, land
and water. Compost also is a great way to naturally
improve the soil in our ag plot, as the compost is
filled with nutrient-rich material which reduces the
need for inorganic fertilisers.
Plus, it’s always fun to get a particularly wormy,
gross compost heap going!
Students, look for the buckets with the composting
signs.
For more information on composting and its affect
on the environment, go to:

Our 1/2/3 students were lucky enough to enjoy a
tour of the Ag plot and an introduction to
composting from Miss Robertson.

Widgiewa Mathematics
For the past three weeks, the Widgiewa Mathematics class have been learning about position. We have looked at what positions significant Barellan landmarks are in and other key positions in our daily life. We identified the school from satellite images and developed a treasure hunt for the 1,2,3 class. There were plenty of giggles and learning opportunities as the two groups battled it out to see who could follow clues to all of the puzzle pieces and ultimately the treasure at the end. We cleverly hid the treasure at the entrance to the 1,2,3 classroom and had the two groups traverse the entire school to end up back at the start. Thank you to everyone who made the event a success.

International Celebrations Upcoming this
Fortnight: 27th of June – 2nd of July
Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Day –
June 27
“According to the data provided by the International
Council for Small Business (ICSB), formal and informal
Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs)
make up over 90% of all firms and account, on average,
for 70% of total employment and 50% of GDP. That is
why the General Assembly declared 27 June Micro-,
Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Day, to raise
public awareness of their contribution to sustainable
development and the global economy.”
International Asteroid Day – June 30
“Virtually all countries are expected to see substantial
growth in the number of older persons between 2015
and 2030, and that growth will be faster in developing
regions. Because the numbers of older persons are
growing, the amount of elder abuse can be expected
to grow with it. While the taboo topic of elder abuse
has started to gain visibility across the world, it remains
one of the least investigated types of violence in
national surveys, and one of the least addressed in
national action plans.”
International Day of the Tropics – June 29
In December 2016 the United Nations General Assembly
adopted resolution A/RES/71/90, declaring 30 June
International Asteroid Day in order to "observe each
year at the international level the anniversary of the
Tunguska impact over Siberia, Russian Federation, on 30
June 1908, and to raise public awareness about the
asteroid impact hazard." International Asteroid Day aims
to raise public awareness about the asteroid impact
hazard and to inform the public about the crisis
communication actions to be taken at the global level in
case of a credible near-Earth object threat.. ”
International Day of Parliamentarism – June 30
“[…] in a time of crisis, the role of parliament is more
vital than ever to pass emergency laws, allocate
resources and scrutinize government action. Some
parliaments are modifying laws and procedures to
allow for remote working, some have continued
meeting physically and some have recessed
altogether. The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is
helping to facilitate inter-parliamentary coordination
and solidarity by sharing examples of how parliaments
can continue to legislate, debate and scrutinize the
actions of government in a time of lockdown and social
distancing.”
