    Kambalda Primary School

aims to provide a safe, warm

    and friendly learning

    environment that supports

    each child to develop the

    essential academic, creative,

    social and physical skills

    necessary to become a

    worthwhile member of a

    rapidly changing society.

We want our students to be

    socially competent, resilient

    and caring of others.

is up and running again this year on Friday mornings in the Art Room from 8.00 - 8.30am.

We are desperately seeking volunteers to help out on Friday mornings to see the continuing success of this program at our school. If you would like to help out on Friday mornings please contact Sam 0431 740 315 for further information. We are also seeking donations of Milo and Jam, these can be dropped into the office.

Thank you to the volunteers who have helped out in the past; without your support we would not be able to continue to provide breakfast for the students on Friday mornings.

  • From the Wow! Week 4 already; lots of exciting work has begun and students have started setting their Term 1 and/or Semester 1 goals. Please take the time to talk with your child on a daily basis about their day and how they are going at achieving their goals. The home school communication and support of your child is so important. I encourage you to sign up to the school’s chosen communication method ‘Seesaw’ this year to keep the lines of communication open between the school and home. I cannot stress enough how important this communication is. Please contact your child’s teacher if you need more information or assistance accessing Seesaw.

123 Magic and Emotion Coaching in the Classroom is the whole school approach chosen for Behaviour Management at Kambalda Primary School and we pride ourselves on implementing this consistently across the school K-6. 123 Magic is a simple yet effective behaviour management program for children between 2 and 12 years of age. 123 Magic is easy to learn and it works. It’s an approach that allows teachers to be firm yet caring when managing behaviour, while avoiding the most common pitfall - talking too much and getting too emotional in response to some behaviour. 123 Magic gives teachers a simple and structured approach to:

    1. Controlling obnoxious behaviour (arguing, whining, fighting, tantrums)

    2. Encouraging good behaviour (listening, being on task, social skills)

    3. Strengthening their relationship with their students (praise, active listening, and shared fun).

The program aims to provide teachers with a strategy for confidently managing their student’s behaviour, while at the same time helping them learn to make good choices about behaviour for themselves. Emotion Coaching is a complementary strategy to the behaviour management techniques of 123 Magic. Emotion coaching assists teachers to help children reflect on and identify their emotions and become more competent at managing those emotions. The outcome is that children learn to respond more flexibly to environmental triggers. The behavioural outbursts of children often result from their inability to manage or have a language for ‘big emotions’ like frustration, fear, anger or excitement. Emotion coaching enables teachers to recognise situations where they might be able to use empathy to connect with children over difficult emotions, help children to reflect on how they’re feeling and learn a language for those emotions. This is the first step toward children being able to track and then better manage their emotions. Emotion coaching, together with the behavioural strategies encompassed within 123 Magic, provides teachers with a balanced approach to managing their children’s behaviour while teaching their children skills to better manage their emotions and take responsibility for their own behaviour.

Our first assembly truly reflected the behaviour standards our staff have at the school and the successful outcomes we have achieved for student behaviour using the 123 Magic strategy. Thank you to all those parents who attended our assembly; assembly is a time for one class to showcase either their work or put on an item for the rest of the school, parents and community to enjoy. It is also a time to recognise those students who

have been working hard and achieving good results either academically or socially. It is great for students to be recognised for their wonderful achievements on all levels so your continued support of our assemblies is much appreciated. Congratulations to our new student councillors. All the speeches were outstanding and I congratulate each and every student who took the time to prepare their speech and present it in a very confident manner on Wednesday in front of the school and wider school community. I look forward to a very positive and productive year with our new leaders; Ladda as Head Councillor, with Lauren, Alira, and Aden making up the student councillor team.

Wednesday 19th February was a day to be very proud of all our school leaders. After lunch, they spoke to the school community to introduce themselves and tell us the type of leaders they would be for 2020 and how they would serve Kambalda Primary School as a Student Councillor; they should all be very proud of themselves for their efforts. We definitely saw all five keys to success in action during their time of preparation and during the speeches and each and every one of our leaders can be wonderful role models at our school. Following the speeches, votes were cast and our four Student Councillors were announced at assembly on Friday.

Congratulations Lauren North, Ladda Kaewhanam, Aden Miller and Alira King.

The Year 6 students supporting our Councillors are Quade, Dakota, Tom, Pharrell, Evey and Brooklyn; they will take on leadership roles in Jump Jam, Sport and other areas across the school. We are looking forward to working with our school leaders throughout the year and seeing what they have to bring to Kambalda Primary School in their last year of primary schooling.

Room 5 were very excited to display their road safety skills to Izzy the Road Safety Mascot. They showed Izzy how they could 'Stop, Look, Listen and Think' before crossing the road. Izzy was super impressed and can't wait to come back to see the Pre-primary's show off their skills too.
