Dear Amazing LCC Community,
We have been a very busy school community. Little Chico Creek’s Jogathon was amazing again this year
and the National Walk to School event we just had was a great success. We aren’t done yet! We have the
Fall Carnival and Book Faire coming next. I mention all of these events because they exemplify the culture
of our school community. This is a community of fun loving people that are willing to come together for all
of our students. This also demonstrates our community’s commitment to supporting the excellent
education provided at LCC.
The next important academic event is the end of the first trimester. This means parent-teacher conferences
are coming up at the end of this month. This is an opportunity for teachers to share your student’s progress.
This information helps parents guide their children. I always recommend to start by praising your student(s)
for their accomplishments and then begin a discussion about an area everyone can work on together to
improve.
This year we are implementing a new conference procedure. It is a more detailed explanation of the
schedule, and is outlined in this newsletter. I am asking parents to arrange for pick-up of students when
they are dismissed at 11:50. An alternative is Chico Area Recreation Department. They are offering to
supervise children for a fee. Please contact them at 895-4711, if you would like to take advantage of their
program.
Paraphrasing the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for K-8, Joanne Parsley on the day of the Walk-a-
thon said, “LCC is a busy place and kids look like they are enjoying it very much!” This describes why Little
Chico Creek is such a great place to be a student, a parent, a teacher, and especially a principal.
Sincerely,
Mr. Murgia, Principal

INDEPENDENT STUDY If your student will be missing at least 5 days of school for a reason other than illness, please consider setting up an Independent Study Plan with your child’s teacher.
1. At least five days prior to the absence, ask the teacher to create an Independent Study Plan.
2. Student, Parent, and Teacher must sign the ISP Contract prior to the absence.
3. Take whatever materials you need with you and complete the work while the student is out.
4. When the student returns to class, turn in all the ISP assignments. The teacher will then sign the Assignment Report and assign the number of days credit earned. If it is 5 or more, your student, and the school, receives credit for attending school on those days. We all win!
IMPORTANT Traffic Woes….please, please remind your children to cross Forest at Amanda and Notre Dame following the pedestrian lights and using the crosswalk. It’s been reported that LCC students are dangerously darting across the roads causing minor heart attacks in the drivers! Thank you for your cooperation! We want to keep your children safe!

Message from the Health Office
H1N1 School News District personnel are following the guidance provided by the Center
for Disease Control and the Department of Education which includes
the following recommendations:
Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and
water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this
way.
Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
If you are sick with flu-like illness, CDC recommends that
you stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is
gone except to get medical care or for other necessities.
(Your fever should be gone without the use of a fever-
reducing medicine.) Keep away from others as much as
possible to keep from making others sick.
Please contact your School Nurse or my office should you have any
questions. You are strongly encouraged to share this information with
parents and staff as you deem appropriate.
CN&R – BEST OF CHICO
Liz Albright, who teaches first grade at Little Chico Creek
Elementary School, is our readers’ choice this year for best teacher in
the K-12 category. To teach little ones, one must be kind, enthusiastic
and—above all—have that special something when it comes to
communicating with and imparting knowledge to this tender age. We
salute Albright for her wonderful dedication and are pleased that she has been recognized for her abilities.
