Thank you to those who are financially support-ing us during the epidemic and suspension of Masses. We are praying for all our families, especially those facing financial stress.

The practice of tithing provides a regular reminder of your dependence on God. In good times, tithing helps you remember that God is the source of all blessings, and it allows you to demonstrate your gratitude for His care. In hard times, tithing moti-vates you to remember God’s faithfulness and ena-bles you to demonstrate trust in God to provide for all of our needs.

The Prayer of Consecration for a Priest, from the Roman Missal

Come to our help, Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God; you are the source of every honor and dignity, of all progress and stability. You watch over the growing family of man by your gift of wisdom and your pattern of order.

When you had appointed high priests to rule your people, you chose other men next to them in rank and dignity to be with them and to help them in their task; and so there grew up the ranks of priests and the office of levites, established by sacred rites. In the desert you extend-ed the spirit of Moses to seventy wise men who helped him to rule the great company of his people.

You shared among the sons of Aaron the fullness of their father's power, to provide worthy priests in sufficient number for the increasing rites of sacrifice and worship.

With the same loving care you gave companions to your Son's apos-tles to help in teaching the faith; they preached the Gospel to the whole world.

Lord, grant also to us such fellow workers, we are weak and our need greater. Almighty Father, grant to these servants of yours the dignity of the priesthood.

Renew within them the Spirit of holiness. As co-workers with the order of bishops may they be faithful to the ministry that they receive from you, Lord God, and be to others a model of right conduct.

May they be faithful in working with the order of bishops, so that the words of the Gospel may reach the ends of the earth, and the family of nations, made one in Christ, may become God's one, holy people.

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

The duties of a Pastor (legally called the ‘Parish Priest’) Code of Canon Law 528-530

Can. 530 The functions especially entrusted to the parish priest are as follows:

the administration of baptism; the administration of the sacrament of confirmation to those in danger of death; the administration of Viaticum and of the anointing of the sick, and the imparting of the apostolic blessing; the assistance at marriages and the nuptial blessing; the conducting of funerals; the blessing of the baptismal font at paschal time; the more solemn celebration of the Eucharist on Sundays and holy days of obligation. Can. 529: So that he may fulfill his office of pastor diligently, the par-ish priest is to strive to know the faithful entrusted to his care. He is therefore to visit their families, sharing in their cares and anxieties and, in a special way, their sorrows, comforting them in the Lord.

The parish priest is to recognize and promote the specific role which the lay members of Christ’s faithful have in the mission of the Church, fostering their associations which have religious purposes.

Moreover, he is to endeavor to ensure that the faithful are concerned for the community of the parish, and that they take part in and sustain works which promote this community.

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA): We begin with prayer based on the Sunday readings fol-lowed by teaching and discussion.

Our time is guided by Keith Kibler, Nancy Schneider, Deb Reif, Jan and

Todd Smith, along with Fr. Fitzpatrick. Our candi-date and potential catechumens this year include folks from a wide range of ages and religious backgrounds, and from no particular religious back-ground. I invite your prayers for Justin, Nicole, Mark, and Lindsay.

“Never measure your generosity by what you give, but rather by what you have left.”

Bishop Fulton J. Sheen (1895 - 1979) Roman Catholic bishop

Pentecost May 30 & 31, 2020

First Reading Acts 2: 1 - 11

When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together. And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the en-tire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim. Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven staying in Jerusa-lem. At this sound, they gathered in a large crowd, but they were confused because each one heard them speaking in his own language. They were astounded, and in amazement they asked, “Are not all these people who are speaking Galileans? Then how does each of us hear them in his native language? We are Parthians, Medes, and Elamites, inhabitants of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphyl-ia, Egypt and the districts of Libya near Cyrene, as well as travelers from Rome, both Jews and converts to Juda-ism, Cretans and Arabs, yet we hear them speaking in our own tongues of the mighty acts of God.” Responsorial: Psalm 104 R. Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.

Second Reading 1 Corinthians 12: 3b - 7; 12 - 13

Brothers and sisters: No one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.

There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord; there are different workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone. To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is given for some benefit. As a body is one though it has many parts, and all the parts of the body, though many, are one body, so also Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slaves or free persons, and we were all given to drink of one Spirit. Gospel John 20: 19 - 23

In the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples re-joiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.”

This Pentecost Sunday recalls the anniversary of the ordination of Father Michael Fitzpatrick to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Father Fitzpatrick was ordained at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul on May 21, 1983. He celebrated his First Solemn Mass of Thanksgiving the next day which was Pentecost Sunday.

Pictured above is the interior of Saint William Church where Father Fitzpatrick celebrated his ‘First Mass’ 37 years ago.

In this picture Archbishop Chaput is preaching on the occasion of the celebration of the centenary of St. William Parish

which was established in 1919.

Almighty Father, renew in Michael J. Fitzpatrick the dignity of the priesthood. Renew within him

the Spirit of holiness. As a co-worker with his bishop may he be faithful to the ministry that he

received from you, Lord God, and be to others a model of right conduct.

May he be faithful in working with the order of bishops, so that the words of the Gospel may

reach the ends of the earth, and the family of nations, made one in Christ, may become God's

Here are “two” easy ways to help support Pope John Paul II Catholic School:

1) AmazonSmile - AmazonSmile is a website operated by Am-azon that lets you enjoy the same shopping experience as on Amazon.com. The difference is that when you shop at Ama-zonSmile (smile.amazn.com), the AmazonSmile Foundation donates 0.5% of the price of eligible purchase to PJPII School. Visit https://smile.amazon.com/ch/23-1744547 and search Pope John Paul II Regional Catholic Elementary School in Coatesville, Pa. to get started.

2) AmeriGas School Days Program - If you purchase propane from AmeriGas or are affiliated with a business that purchases propane from AmeriGas, look for the "SCHOOL DAYS RECEIPT" section of your invoice. This program awards 2 cents to PJP II for every gallon of gas a customer uses up to $2,000 per year. Clip the "School Days Receipt" portion of your invoice and drop off at the school or mail to PJPII School - 2875 Manor Rd., West Brandywine, Pa 19320.

Life as we know it is quickly coming to a screeching halt. Each day brings new directives in response to the spreading of the coronavirus. All indicators point to a crisis which has yet to peak.

The latest mandates have closed PREP programs for the remainder of the school year.

All this is being done for the safety and well-being of the PREP staff, volunteers, and families.

ALL PREP Classes are now being conducted as a “Home-Study Model.” Parents please follow the schedule of classes and chapters to teach, which can be found on the PREP page of the Parish Website. Additionally, parents will receive weekly updates from the catechists.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation as we navigate these new waters together.

Outreach Commission The Serenity/AA Group: “God, grant me the se-renity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things that I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” Future meetings

contingent upon the Coronavirus and CDC recommen-dations.

The Cancer Support Group meets the sec-ond Saturday of each month at 11 a.m. in Meeting Rooms SS. Drexel & Neumann. We offer support to anyone diagnosed with cancer,

anyone who is presently undergoing treatment, has com-pleted treatment, is a family member and/or caregiver. Our next meeting is contingent upon the Coronavirus and CDC recommendations.

Caring for Friends! Cooks: Thank you for the unbelievable dedication you have shown in preparing meals for the Caring for Friends program. We have had so many varied meals come into the freezer during this lock down

and it is a tribute to your generosity. With that being said, we have a Friend who is in need of lower salt meals and ones with vegetables. Although that is a vague request, I think if some of you could occasionally add less salt or no salt to some of your cooking, it would be helpful for this person. You might mark it with a string or ribbon to make it easier for her visitor to see when she selects meals. Visitors: Your dedication during this virus outbreak is heroic. Delivering meals is quite a feat at this time. Hopefully by the time you read this it will be lessened. A request has been put out for lower salt meals for one Friend. I have asked the cooks to tie a string or ribbon around these meals. If you could please avoid taking them unless there are so many that it can't be avoided. Any questions, please contact me at [email protected] or call 610-384-7160.

Nourish for Caregivers (formerly Caregivers Support Group) meet in the Bethany Lounge. We recognize that virtually everyone of us will care for a loved one at some point in our lives. Nourish provides caregiv-

ers a faith perspective, as well as, practical and emotional sup-port, useful tools, and shared experiences. Please come and join us and be “Nourished.” For more information please call or email: Cathy Samoylo 484-433-9705, [email protected]; or Beth Trubachik 330-242-0206, [email protected]. The date of our next gathering is contingent upon the Coronavirus and CDC recommendations.

Good Works: We are St. Peter Parish vol-unteers who join many other local Christian church groups in performing home repairs. We reach out in love and friendship to trans-

form substandard houses into warmer, safer, and drier homes, and by doing so, turn despair into hope. The team welcomes new volunteers of all skill levels. For more infor-mation or to be a part of Good Works, contact Jim at 610-496-1393 or [email protected].

Prayer Shawl Ministry: Do you know someone who is suffering, struggling, facing overwhelming challenges, or major life changes? Consider gift-ing them with a prayer shawl or lap blanket to

bring them comfort and let them know people are praying for them, no matter their age, faith, or problem. Our ministry members are knitters and crocheters of all skill levels and others who deliver our handiwork. All of us weave prayers into our handiwork and pray for all our recipients who live nearby, around the country, and even overseas! If you’d like to join our ministry, our gatherings are fun, inspirational, and optional. To find out more or select a piece for someone, contact Jan Smith at 610-269-1756 or [email protected]. The date of our next gathering is contingent upon the Coronavirus and CDC recommendations. Page 8 - 0146
