SI-3218 FALL SEVEN TIMES, STAND UP EIGHT

June 25, 27, 29 Mon., Wed. & Fri. (9:30am - 12:00pm)

Recertification: 7.5 hours - Methods Perseverance and willpower are vital to growing in our faith. God wants his people to persevere no matter what happens; as Christians, we have to learn how to overcome obstacles, difficulties, trials, and tribulation to experience victory in Christ. Perseverance requires a growth mindset which is the ability to keep working and improving at something despite the challenges we face. This workshop will apply both spirituality and empirically based psychological interventions to develop the passion and perseverance we need to be the best image of ourselves despite setbacks or failures. Audience participation is highly encouraged. Josué Guadarrama, M.A. is a Counseling Psychology doctoral student at Washington State University (WSU), a psychological theory trainer for the Institute for Individual and Organizational Change (IFIOC). He received his B.A. in Interpersonal Communication and a minor in Psychology from Cal State Fullerton (11), his Masters in Counseling Psychology from WSU (13) and has conducted research at Oklahoma State University (OSU) and the University of Michigan (UM). Josué holds diverse clinical experiences in a variety of university counseling centers that include, WSU, the University of Idaho, and Gonzaga University. Josué has been an instructor for IPM at Diocese of Orange since 2008.

SI-3219 BOOK OF REVELATION, IT'S NOT THE END OF THE WORLD!

June 25, 27, 29 Mon., Wed. & Fri. (7:00pm - 9:30pm)

Recertification: 7.5 hours - Content Perhaps the most misinterpreted book in the Bible, the Revelation of St. John is filled with hope, especially for those suffering persecution, and gives Christians the courage to stand firm for Christ against the temptations of the world. Come and learn how the confusing images and symbols in this book reveal the struggle between the church and the world, and the incomparable joy promised to those who remain faithful to Christ. Please bring a Bible. Charlene Dumitru see bio in workshop SI-3212

SI-3220 PRIESTS, PROPHETS, AND KINGS IN THE OLD TESTAMENT

June 26, 27, 28 Tue., Wed. & Thur. (9:30am - 12:00pm)

Recertification: 7.5 hours - Content The Catechism of the Catholic Church reminds us that “Jesus fulfilled the messianic hope of Israel in his threefold office of priest, prophet, and king” (436). In this session, we will look at the controversial priests of ancient Israel, the bold prophets who criticized the king, and the kings who weren’t always portrayed kindly in the Old Testament. In the end, we will have an opportunity to encounter Jesus who is the perfection of all three. Randy Lopez, M.T.S., see bio in workshop SI-3214

SI-3221 APPLYING GAMIFICATION IN CATECHESIS

June 26, 27, 28 Tue., Wed. & Thur. (7:00pm – 9:30pm)

Recertification: 7.5 hours - Methods The concept of "gamification" is a buzz-word used in education. To be clear, it is not transforming the lessons into games, rather it is the appropriation of principles used in video games for the environment of learning. This workshop will consider these principles for the setting of catechesis offering templates and examples to use in the parish setting.

SI-3226 HAMBRE Y SED DE JUSTICIA Junio 23, Sábado

DIOCESAN MINISTRIES CELEBRATION (DMC) 2018 VIETNAMESE KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Bishop Thanh Thai Nguyen

“A missionary heart…never closes itself off, never retreats into its own security, never opts for rigidity and defensiveness. It realizes that it has to grow….” (#45)

“We are called to bear witness to a constantly new way of living together in fidelity to the Gospel. Let us not allow ourselves to be robbed of community!” (#92)

“Every Christian is a missionary to the extent that he or she has encountered the love of God in Christ Jesus: we no longer say that we are “disciples” and “missionaries”, but rather that we are always “missionary disciples”. (#120)

“Being a disciple means being constantly ready to bring the love of Jesus to others, and this can happen unexpectedly and in any place: on the street, in a city square, during work, on a journey.” (#127)

“…contemporary expressions so as to transmit the faith in a new “language of parables”. We must be bold enough to discover new signs and new symbols, new flesh to embody and communicate the word, and different forms of beauty which are valued in different cultural settings, including those unconventional modes of beauty which may mean little to the evangelizers, yet prove particularly attractive for others.” (#167)
