Sample Projects from Top SAGE Team in 2009 First Place Team: SAGE Nigeria (Junior Secondary School, Jikwoyi)

The school's team projects included manufacture and supply of candles, production and sales of plaster of Paris, working with Nigeria Export Import Bank to help export their chalk and candles throughout the West African coast. All these were done under the business projects. Under environmental projects, the school planted trees and flowers in their permanent site, picked scrap aluminum and recycled them. They also recycled-bio degradable waste from their school and collaborated with NESREA in promoting environmental standards.

The school also partnered with EFCC at the launch of anti-corruption revolution. In conjunction with AMAC, they immunized 1,700 children; campaigned against malaria, gave scholarship lectures to 63 women on the dangers of breast cancer. In the school community projects, they established a skill acquisition centre where 120 widows were empowered on two training programmes in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce, Plateau State government. They also trained 540 retirees on (self economic) empowerment, trained SAGE advisors and 40 students in Federal Capital Territory and established a bio-gas production plant.

2009 SAGE World Cup Presents

Country Day & Trade Fair An international exchange of cultures

Brasilia, Brazil

Monday, August 10 9 A.M. – 6 P.M.

Join our global community for an exciting and interactive day of cultural experiences from 5 continents!

Tomorrow’s leaders are here today as youth from up to 20 countries will

take the stage and showcase the unique and treasured cultures from each of their nations. China, Russia, South Africa, USA and Zambia are

among those who will share and entertain us with their music, dance, customs and traditions.

Don’t forget your checkbook! These teenagers are also social

entrepreneurs. Throughout the day, you will have opportunities to visit the International Trade Fair where cultural products will be on display and

for sale! Yes, the creativity and innovation from these young business people will amaze you, but it’s their sense of social responsibility that’s

truly astonishing. Each business engages a triple bottom line of profit,

people, and planet.

As the day concludes, a new sense of knowledge, tolerance,

understanding and respect will fill the hearts of all in attendance. If you doubt the impact of this event, just watch as the students from Nigeria

befriend the students from South Korea; listen in as the students from Canada collaborate on new business ideas with the students from the

Ukraine; or participate as the students from Brazil teach Portuguese to

the students from Ghana. SAGE provides these students with opportunities to develop life skills, but it’s these experiences that they will

carry with them for a lifetime.
