In photogrammetry, base lining is the line between the principal points of two consecutive air

photographs. It is usually measured on one photograph after the principal point of the other has

 been transferred.

Objective :

Orientations a pair of aerial photograph for viewing stereoscopic model (3D by using mirror

stereoscopic instruments.

). &irror stereoscope

3. * pair of aerial photograph overlapped.

+. hinatograph pencil.

-rocedure :

. -reparing the photograph#wo photographs of the same object taen from two slightly different positions, or stereo

pairs, are re/uired for the purpose of stereo0viewing with the &irror "tereoscope. &ore

than 12 (preferably 42 of the same area should be over0lapping in consecutive

photographs taen by an airplane flying hori5ontally over the area being area being

mapped.

).  *rranging the -hotographs#he photographs (or stereo pairs should be arranged, as shown : 0

#he stereo pairs or aerial photograps mared and should be arranged so that

the shaded protions (overlapping area of the photographs are on the inside (or

nest to each other, as the shaded protions represent the area that is overlapping.

) 6ind the pincipal point of -hotographs .#he pricipal point is the point where lines drawn between opposite collimating

mars intersect in the center of the photograph, while the collimating mars are

mars at the mid0point on each side of the photograph.

3 #ransposing the principal point to -hotograps .#he landmar of principal point *, in -hotograph ,can always be found in

-hotograph ,or, in other words, the principal point * can be transported to

-hotographs . #he same landmar, when located in -hotograph , is

designated #ransposed -oint *7.

+ !e8t, find the principal point of -hotograph , in the manner noted, which

should then be designated -rincipal -oint 9.

1 6inally, transpose principal point 9 to -hotograph , which should then be

designated #rasposed -oint 97.

4 $e0arrange the stereo pairs so that points *,97,* and *7 are lined up, in this order,

on a staright line, with the distance between * and *7 about )42 millimeters (say,

2 inches but not longer. * glass salce will prove convenient for this wor, or the

folloeing method may be found convenient, too.

6i8 one end of a strong white string to the left adge of the des or table which is

being used, with the string about 12cm ()2in. longer than the top of the des.

*ttach a weight to the right end of the string so that it wil hang from the right

edge the top surface.&ar the string, at points about 32mm distance in each direction from the center

of the des, to indicate the )42mm distance between points * and *7.oinside the points * and *7 to the signs mared on the string and then coinside

points 9 and 97 to the string. #ape the aerial photographs so that they will not

move.

(;hen the &irror "tereoscope is already set0up, the stereo pairs may be arranged

against the string, after first alining the string porperly to the &irror "tereoscope.

Or, in other words, move the right end of the string along the right edge of the

des, while looing through the &irror "tereoscope, and fi8 the right edge of the

string to the right edge when vertical displacement between the right and left

string images is eliminated, or , in other words, the line drawn between the points

is parallel to a line drawn between the optical a8es of the left and right eyepieces.

9ased from tas given, base lining are alligning a line for two stereo pair. "tereo pairs or

overlapping photograph given might be not form in a straight flight line when it captured. 9y

doing the base lining can also remove <0paralle8 that might be cause by any disturbance during

flight.
