Standards or rules to be observed by artists in creating works of art or to create a good composition.

1. Jot down the principle and explain each of the seven PRINCIPLES of design in your own words. Unity (Harmony), Variety, Emphasis (Focal Point), Balance, Movement, Rhythm, Proportion

2. 1. Unity (Harmony) – visually pleasing agreement among the elements in a design; It is the feeling that everything in the work of art works together and looks like it fits.

2. Variety –occurs when an artist creates something that looks different from the rest of the artwork. An artist may use variety to make you look at a certain part or make the artwork more interesting; helps to create interest and avoid monotony.

3. Emphasis (Focal Point) – Artists use emphasis to make certain parts of their artwork stand out and grab your attention. The center of interest or focal point is the place the artist draws your eye to first; meant to stand out to draw attention to the area.

4. Balance – distribution of visual weight and interest. Symmetrical (formal): balance refers to using the exact same characteristics in the same position on either side of the composition; like a mirror image. Asymmetrical (informal): by using different by equally attracting features on either side of the composition.

The basic elements that are used by artists in creating works of art; they are what you use to create a good composition. If we want to make art, we need to understand these seven elements of art

1. Jot down each element and explain the seven elements ofart. Line, color, shape, value, texture, shape/form & space.

1. Line – the mark made by a moving point. People use lines to write words and artists draw lines with pencils or other tools.

2. Shape – is a flat, enclosed line or area that has two dimensions – length and width.

3. Color – how eyes perceive reflected light off an object. There are three properties of color – hue (the

name of the color), Value ( the light or dark of the color, also known as shades and tints), and intensity ( refers to the brightness of the color).

4. Value – degrees of lightness or darkness.

-Matching STV and HDTV aspect ratios: Making sure the different rations match.

-Information density and readability: The more information you squeeze on, the smaller the text

Online Work (March 16th)

Green Screen Article: A green screen is technically called a chromakey, but green screen is the commonly used term. You can use any primary color including red and blue, but aren’t as common because you wear those colors often, green is not as commonly worn and not usually prominent in anyone’s skin. You can also use Luminance; anything under certain brightness will be removed. To use a green screen, you must not be wearing any green, or have any green light shining, you cannot cross the edges of a green screen. Only primary colors are used because they do not contain other elements of color, “if you tried to key on purple for example, anything blue and green would be subject to removal.” “10 Tips for Great Interviews” Article: Some important tips to remember when and before having an interview:

1. Plan Your Interview Approach. Such as how many cameras are you going to be using, who you’re interviewing, what style you’re going to be interviewing with, recording responses and questions, etc..

2. Time Isn’t Always On Your Side. Make sure to always leave yourself with as much time as possible. As with almost everything, it’s impossible to avoid delays, technical problems etc. You also need to time to prep all of your equipment before even starting the interview. To make sure you have all of your mic and batteries etc.

3. Prepping Your Interviewee. Prepare them so they know what to expect for the interview. Plan for off topic wandering and long drawn out responses as well.

4. Put Them At Ease. Don’t come across aggressive before the interview. It can cause them to be defensive. Plan out your general questions to ask them in the pre interview session.

5. Using a Stand-In during Setup. Have crew act as stand-ins while setting up lights and audio.

6. When They Look Great, Or Not. Advise your subjects to dress properly and nicely accordingly to the interview. But always keep spare clothing and jackets of different sizes just in case someone doesn’t dress properly.

7. How Did I Do? May I See It? The answer has to be no. Try to tell them this during the pre-interview session.

8. When You Wear All the Hats. When you’re a producer doing everything, “wearing all the hats,” again, make sure to allow plenty of time.

9. A Little Help’s a Big Deal. It’s good to have a volunteer crew, if you’re able to afford or acquire one. Any additional help is always great to have. Time is money.

Review one movie this quarter from the theater

Step I: First, check out what this web site gives as steps to follow for a movie review http://www.ehow.com/how_4443532_write-film-review.html

Step II: Include in your summary (choose 8 of bullets below);

Name of the Film Star Wars in 3D

Prominent Actors Anakin Skywalker, Darth Maul, r2d2, Obi Wan Kanobi,

Genre of Film (comedy, adventure, drama,

horror, etc.)

Sci-Fi Setting. Where the movie takes place, the year,

and any other information of that sort. A galaxy far far away,

An Overview of the Plot. The jedi’s find Anakin on Tatoone and Anakin won a pod race to fix the hyper-drive generator. Then they found the force was strong with him, and Darth Maul was cut in half.

If you've seen other movies by this same director, consider similarities/differences. I haven’t seen the other ones.

Direction. Consider the director and how they choose to portray/explain the events in the story. Think about the way they presented the movie to the audience. If the movie was slow, or didn't include things you thought were necessary, credit this to the director. I think he did a pretty snazzy job on all of this, I mean it’s like the most famous movie.

Editing. Was the movie choppy? Also, consider

Apple Store

1) Why do analysts say Apple has an advantage over its competitors in computer and electronics retailing? It sells a single brand, stocks far fewer products and has only a few hundred stores, compared with Best Buy's more than 4,000.

2) How have Apple's competitors tried to copy the Apple retail store experience? They try and copy Apple’s store by having the same layout as the Apple store.

3) Why did former Apple CEO Steve Jobs think it was important for Apple to have brick-and-mortar stores? He wanted Apple to be around for a long time, so he wanted a good foundation.

ACTIVITY IDEAS

• How important are retail stores to Apple's success? Do you think Apple would be as successful if it didn't have a retail store chain? Why or why not? I think that it is really important that Apple has retail stores. This allows more people to see them, and more people to notice. If they didn’t have a retail store chain, they might not be as seen as other stores.

• Some of Apple's retail stores are considered high-profile venues. According to Apple, these stores and their "unique design elements, locations and size" help "promote brand awareness and serve as vehicles for corporate sales and marketing activities." Apple says 16 of its stores are classified as high-profile stores. Use the Internet to find out where these stores are located and discuss why you think Apple wanted a high-profile store in each location. Have you ever visited one of these stores? If so, how does it differ from a regular Apple store? I have never been in an Apple store, but it’s probably because the higher the profile, the more visible they are to bigger companies.

• Chose a retailer that you frequently visit. Make a list of things that make this store recognizable (store layout, colors, employee dress, etc.) and assess why you think the retailer decided on this options. After making your list, partner with another student and compare your stores. Are there common features? If so, how do those features enhance the customer experience? I picked Aeropostale. This store sells clothing. They
