At first, I didn’t think much of macro photography, but after my first time using a macro lens, I realized just how fun it was. Bringing out the minuscule details in our every day life made me appreciate the beauty we tend to overlook. In this book, you can find more macro photography in the section, “Polaroid 600”.

P O R T R A I T SPortraits have slowly become one of the most rewarding photography genres for me. I’ve found that candid has been the most challenging for me, however posing models has become more and more exciting. These have been some of my favorite pictures in the whole class, but with every one successful portrait, so many unsuccessful ones were taken. Overall, portraits were the most challenging, but these are the pictures I am most proud of.

Bannack, Montana is a ghost town that was inhabited until the 1970’s. The town includes a main street with a saloon, hotel, church, school building and masonic temple, and many homes. Though the town was still used well after the invention of refrigerators, air conditioning, and other amenities that are fully integrated into our daily life, the most recent-looking additions to the town are now old, peeling wallpaper, an old stove, and a rusting truck. I went to Bannack with a large group of students and photographed some of my favorite bits and pieces of this town, as well as most of the portraits used in the previous section.

While at Bannack, Montana, I fell in love with the bits and pieces of the town that were falling apart and slowly being reclaimed by the elements. The idea of falling apart as I age scares me, but to see it in the world around me reminds me of how beautiful it can be.

P O L A R O I D 6 0 0This past summer, one of my friends gave me a working Polaroid Sun 600. This camera has become one of my most prized possessions. Every picture I take with it is a little surprise, and I love being able to hold the pictures I take with it, keep it in a little box, and write a description on the back. I used this camera to document the summer, and everything about it brings back fond memories.
