Photograph-

The product of a camera when focused film and material are made permanent due to chemicals.

Photography-The art or act of taking, and processing pictures.

Shutter Speed

The measurement of time that the camera’s shutter is open. It controls the amount of light that passes through the lenses.

Why is this important?

It is important because the picture would be too bright or too moody if the shutter did not close correctly.

Too much light gets into the picture causing the picture

to have areas that wash out. (Become fully white)

Too little light gets into picture causing the picture to have areas that become

foggy or black. (Become fully black)

Lens

A lense is the part of the camera that closes when the picture is taken. It helps alter the amount of light and movement in the picture.

Tripod

Is a stand for the camera that holds it in a steady angel with fine adjustments on it.

ApertureAn opening in the diaphragm made to let light pass through onto the film plane.

Why is this important?Aperture is important because it is what puts the picture onto the film plane. Without this, there would be no picture.

External Lighting

Any form of lighting that is not created by the camera itself.

Filters

Create manipulation against the scenery to make a natural-looking image.

SLR

SLR stands for “Single Lens Camera”, and lets the photographer see through the lens to check exactly what the actual photo will look like.

Why is it important?This is important because a digital screen may may not show what the actual photo will look like, and having an SLR will help capture photos more accurately.

Exposure

The event of light falling on a photograph. The lenses control exposure.

Why is it important?

Exposure is important because the light projects the photo on the film.
