To celebrate the coming Chinese New Year, Shenwai Longgang International School (SLIS) sent an invitation to parents to attend the Spring Festival Temple Fair and take part in joyful festivities with teachers and students there.

The temple fair started with a spe-cial lion dance featuring two large lion puppets. Together, they presented a couplet saying “Wishing for gradu-ates from SLIS to shine everywhere,” giving their blessings to students from the school.

After that, faculty members and students sang a song called “Wish You Happiness and Prosperity,” which expressed their best wishes to the audience.

The temple fair had four stalls. Before taking part in the fair, each student was given a mission card with instructions which they had to follow and complete with their parents. At the event, students were able to learn techniques for various handicrafts, ranging from making sugar paintings to writing couplets and solving riddles, and from paper cutting to making clay fi gurines.

There was also a spread of tasty refreshments like candied fruits, sweet dumplings and dim sum available.

At the end of the activity, students exchanged New Year’s gifts and gave their best wishes to their classmates.

As a highlight of the school’s “Chi-nese Culture Month” celebrations, a series of activities will be held starting from New Year’s Day and last until the end of the winter vacation. The temple fair aims to educate students on tra-ditional Chinese culture and get stu-dents involved in practicing it so that the arts will be carried into the future. Before the temple fair, the school had organized activities including poetry reading and patriotism-themed class parties.

The activity echoes the school’s mis-sion, which is to cultivate well-rounded students. (Yang Mei)
