This is my coverline after just converting it into Photoshop. As you can see, it’s not very bold at all, nothings is making it stand out and lacks the qualities that normally give and title it’s significance.

So I used a tool known as the “layer style”, which does a number of things to your text to help make it stand out; including making it 3-D, giving a shadow, adding a pattern and many more.

I used the layer style tool in Photoshop to firstly put on a stroke. This gives a very professional border around exactly what you need, without adding anything extra to where you don’t want it to be.

I made the size 3 so that that it wasn’t too overwhelming, the colour black because it went nicely with my theme, and the opacity at 100% so that it could still stand out as the title of my page.

I then put in a drop shadow, which just creates an actual shadow onto your text. By choosing the angle at 90 degrees, it gave just enough of a gloom to be noticeable, yet not too startling, this helped to make the actual word ‘Insight’ the important part, instead of just the effects around it.

Lastly, I added a bevel and emboss layer to help make my title take on a more 3-D tone. The effect added light to the top and darkness to the bottom, so that it gives off the effect that the words are actually coming forward to the reader. By having the direction facing up, I felt that it uplifted the text and helped to make the magazine look brighter, other than if it was facing down, which seemed to downcast my image.
