CHARLOTTE MARTIN

Page 2: Photoshop Progress

I initially decided I want my poster to have the main image being a mixture of the two main features in my documentary (Penelope and the attacker).

Firstly I put the two images together to see if I would be able to blend them together.

I haven’t edited the picturesyet, although this will progress through time, oncethe structure of the poster isorganised.

Page 3: Photoshop Progress

I have began to erase the outside of the images, for both of the images to fit together.

I have used the eraser tool with a low opacity to do this, I want the effect to be natural and professional, therefore not making the blend perfect.

The two images will now be able to be put together, I am going to change the background from white to black.

Page 4: Photoshop Progress

I have blended the images together

successfully using a white

background. I decided I would prefer

a black background, I simply used

the black pen tool on a low opacity to

create a smoky, dusky outline for the

images.

This is the final result of my first

draft, the images do not stand out as

much as I had hoped, so I may have

to change the images or edit them

further.

Page 5: Photoshop Progress

Here I have experimented

with a variety of different

fonts, I want the font to

look very creepy yet

professional.

I really like the first font

due to the type like effect

however I exceptionally

enjoy the third font. I

want to add a smoky

effect to really draw the

attention of the readers.

Page 6: Photoshop Progress

My second draft involves only the attacker,

after creating this I decided I preferred this

picture rather than the previous picture.

I love the edit using the curves on Photoshop

to make the image a lot more mysterious. I

have decided I want to use this image, but

also add an image of Penelope perhaps to the

left hand side.

I added channels at the bottom of the page to

make it look realistic, I used a red colour

scheme which I may change to blue.

Page 7: Photoshop Progress

I started off editing

Penelope’s face using

the curves effect again

on Photoshop, then I

realised this effect

looks too fake so I

decided to use a more

natural effect and use

a slightly different

picture.

This is shown to the left, the edit is a

lot more natural yet still noticeable.

I used the selective colour tool and

added more of a red tone. I did this

to make the image similar to the

attack’s red faced image.

My third draft involves

putting the two edited

images of Penelope and

the attacker together. I

did this by using the

black colour tool to

make the edges look

smoky and blend the

harsh edges together.

I really like the finish of

this, however I would

prefer Penelope to be

looking at the camera,

to make it more

effective.

I decided to add ‘THE PENELOPE CASE’ in a different font with a smoky shadow surrounding each letters.

After this I took some inspiration from different documentary advertisements and added words at the bottom of the page, things such as “A documentary by Charlotte Martin” and “By ACE Productions”. I feel this brings a real approach to the poster, creating a professional look.

Page 10: Photoshop Progress

I have added quotes from news papers in two places on the poster, this gives the audience the change to see some positive reviews about the documentary.

I want to make the bottom less matt black so I may add some smoke like effect to this. I am happy with everything so far.

Page 11: Photoshop Progress

I edited the image of Penelope more by adding in a black colour all over using the photo filter on Photoshop. I did this as I want to reduce the yellow tones in her face and add darker colours such as red and black to match the attackers face on the advertisement image. I also made Penelope’s eyes a deeper blue to really stand out to the audience, I also feel as if this creates a more innocent approach to her character.

Page 12: Photoshop Progress

I have changed the font as I much prefer it this way, with the black smoky parts around it too. The font is now ‘Ovara’, I prefer how it is separated and looks professional.

I made Penelope’s eyes a deeper blue to match the colour scheme that I will continue in my double page spread. I continued this onto the line under ‘The Penelope Case’ and blended this out a little in a smoky effect.

I added a smoky effect to the bottom using a low opacity black tool, to create a natural separation from the matt black and the white writing.

Page 13: Photoshop Progress

I chose this image for my DPS image, I want this image to take up both pages and Penelope’s face to stand out whilst the article is on the left side.

I edited this image by changing the contrast and making it brighter, I like the pose Penelope is making as she looks concerned and confused, linking to the purpose of the story, article and documentary as a whole.

Page 14: Photoshop Progress

I decided to make the whole background a darker shade of black, I have

left some of the shadow on the left hand side for effect but I didn’t like how

noticeably grey it was on the first image. I am now going to start my DPS

and add the conventions as I have finished editing my image.

Page 15: Photoshop Progress

I started off with the title and ‘How did he do it’

underneath then decided I didn’t like this idea. I

then added a bevel and emboss onto the headline

and the two white boxes. I also used the black paint

tool on a low opacity to create a burnt paper look to

it. I like the effect this has. I also added a

description underneath this, using the same bevel

and emboss edit however changed it to black.

Page 16: Photoshop Progress

I have now added ‘the real story’ underneath the title as I feel as if it was a little bare. I havealso added an enlarged quote in the centre of the page. I have already written my article in a word document so I am now going to copy and paste this in, in columns around the enlarged quote.

I have done half of the article, which is shown in the second image. I have changed the interview questions to a blue colour to add to the colour scheme of black, white and blue. The blue matches Penelope’s eyes in the picture.

Page 17: Photoshop Progress

I have now added the second section of my DPS article whilst going around the enlarged quote. I have also added an image at the bottom of one of the attacked girls, I have added 4 girls at the bottom and give more details about the documentary, such as the time date and channel. I added a black outline in between each image of the girls to make it look smoky and mysterious, ultimately to fit in with the theme of the DPS as a whole.

Page 18: Photoshop Progress

This is my DPS after I have added the documentary information, I have added ‘to find out their stories’ underneath and “I’m 17 and I was attacked” as this is a quote from my documentary.

I did the same bevel, emboss and smoke out to the white box as I did previously to get the burnt paper effect.
