Whether you have a Nikon or Canon DSLR, a point-and-shoot camera, or just an iPhone/Blackberry, etc., you will learn how to compose, expose, and capture better images. Photographers of all abilities will find these regular weekly sessions rewarding. You will be encouraged to bring in 2 images each per-week (on a mac-formatted data stick, or sent in via email). These will be projected on the lecture-theatre screen and discussed during the class by David (and other society members). This is an excellent opportunity for you to improve your photography and to develop professional skills.

A different theme will be covered each week on a topic chosen by PhotOx Society members. The schedule for Trinity term is:

• Class 1 (30/4) Review of Easter Vacation Photographs – looking at subject choice, composition, exposure, focus, colour balance, lens-choice, camera-angle, perspective & cropping.

• Class 2 – (7/5) Photo Retouching – how to remove unwanted items, change backgrounds, obliterate sensor marks, and techniques for restoring old B&W and colour photographs

• Class 3 – (14/5) Documentary & Press Photography – we will look the work of a range of famous photographers and discuss their techniques and how they approach their subjects. We will also consider ethical issues and what post-processing or retouching is allowed when shooting press/documentary images.

• Class 4 – (21/5) Video with your DSLR – this session will cover techniques, camera settings, camera movement and support. Everything necessary to shoot high-quality, arresting video images

• Class 5 – (28/5) Landscape and Wildlife Photography – we will look at National Geographic photographers and landscape Masters and analyse how they capture such strong, internationally recognised imagery.

• Class 6 – (4/6) Professional Workflow using Photoshop CC/Lightroom. Cataloging, Archiving, Editing, and post-processing using Adobe Camera Raw (found in both Photoshop CC and Lightroom) will be explained to give PhotOx members a fluent understanding of how to quickly and effectively deal with the raw files that they shoot.

• Class 7 – (11/6) Architecture – discussing the equipment and approach required to shoot stunning architectural interiors and exteriors.

• Class 8 – (18/6) Review session – looking at the impressive range of images shot by members during the term followed by food and drinks.

I can also arrange half-day Workshop Sessions (covering Portrait and Fashion Photography using daylight & studio-flash), a Digital Editing Workshop (using Photoshop CC and/or Lightroom 5), and if there is enough interest, a Still Life session – looking at product, macro, & food photography. Please email me including ‘Portrait/Fashion’, ‘Digital Editing’ or ‘Still Life’ in the subject box if you are interested me running any of these weekend workshops.
