There are different tiers of the waterfall that appear to pop up in different parts of the woods. We were able to take pictures only in some areas as they were too steep while at other parts, it is possible to go in for a swim.

Bang Pae Waterfall is formed by the merging of several tiny streams that cascade down the reservoir at the conservation center. It provides water supply to households in Bang Pae Village and then run out to sea.

Not too far from Tone Sai Waterfall is another of its kind called Bang Pae Waterfall located half an hour from Phuket’s city center. To get there starting from the intersection at Mrs. Chan’s Monument, make a right turn to Tambol Pakrog and continue further about 7 kilometers.

Those who like a bit of adventure trekking in an open forest will love this waterfall. The trek can bit a bit tiring but there’s always the clean running stream where you can take a rest and dip your feet in to cool off.

After sometime, we reached the part with splashing water flowing from high above. The current is not too strong but the rocks that fill the bottom looked like small jewels. There were children enjoying a swim; some trying to catch fish and crab and generally having a good time. It was nice to see how children can still have a good time in a natural environment while we live in an age prevailed by technology.

We were having fun learning about plants and even spotted a rare type of palm (Kerriodoxa elegans Dransfield) which exists only in this area. There is also a Gibbon Conservation Center to visit nearby for more educational fun.

Our nine kilometer journey took just a few minutes, after which we were amazed at thousands upon thousands of fish that swam over to greet us at the dock.

The atmosphere on the island was so breath-taking that you have to see it for yourself how heavenly it is. Everyone quickly got off the yacht and took out their cam-eras to capture the moment. The endless water, the blue sky and huge rocks made the perfect backdrop for photo taking.

For lunch, we had a succulent meal consisting of BBQ seafood with spicy sauce, authentic Thai food, snacks, desserts, creamy coconut ice cream and all kinds of drinks. The icing on top was the heavenly view that was present all around.

Driving from Phuket, we made a de-tour to Amphur Kirirath Nikhom, a lovely area surrounded by mountains, just before reaching Suratthani City center. When here, it is advisable to contact Baan Yuan Sao Eco Tourism Group to take a tour of the Fan Stone or Erected Stone, a newly discovered attraction of the area.

To get there, we had to take a four-wheel SUV then trek on foot passing the rubber plantation for another 200 me-ters….and then, wow! The sight we saw was absolutely amazing. The huge rock stood gloriously on the edge of a cliff, surrounded by mysterious mountains.

Founded by a local hunter, the Fan Rock or Erected Rock is a massive rock boulder with just a tiny base attached to the cliff. It is amazing how it managed not to fall over after all this time. As legend goes, those who get to touch the stone and throw coins into the crevice at the base while praying for love and good fortune will get their wishes come true.

After the fun detour, we headed on to Suratthani City. We hopped aboard the long-tail boat and enjoyed sceneries along the ‘Hundred Canals of Tapee River’ to observe the Thai Way of Life. As the boat glided pass people living in houses along the river, they would wave to us with big smiles on their faces and made us feel very welcome.

Both sides of the canals were filled with overgrown plants and medicinal herbs that formed a tunnel which nicely shaded us from the sun. Mr. Panu, the guide, taught us the benefits of the herbs then cut some Nypa Palm leaves to weave a pail used widely in the old days to retrieve water.

Also famous in Suratthani are their coconuts and the cute monkeys, so we went to search for the Kadaejae Mon-key School in Amphur Kanchanadit. As we arrived, the friendly monkeys came jumping around with joy to greet us.

Here, the monkeys are taught to distinguish between different colors of the coconuts, climb to the top of the trees to pluck coconuts and other funny tricks. They are very cute, agile and able to demonstrate their talents very well.

Now, for the dried-chili dressing, you will need some large dried chilies, garlic, salt, soy sauce, Chinese Sauce (Teejeow), tamarind juice, sugar and lime juice. Mix everything together in a blender, add corn flour to thicken the sauce and bring to a boil.
