1 Physical Geography

Portugal is situated in the western part of the Iberian Peninsula. Its frontiers are Spain in the north and east and the Atlantic Ocean in the south and west.In Portugal there are eight regions and also several islands. Madeira and Azores are the two archipelagos.

The climate in Portugal is very different from the north to the south.

In the north it rains a lot and it is very cold in winter. It can even snow in the high mountains.

In the south, the weather is much hotter and very dry.

Minho is in the north of Portugal.

There is the sea and the mountains.

Minho is always green because it rains a lot.

Trás os Montes and Alto Douro

Trás os Montes is a region with high mountains. Winters are very cold and summers very hot.

Alto Douro is the region of Port wine. There are a lot of vineyards in the mountains.

Beira Litoral is very famous for its lovely beaches and it is a good place for fishing. It is a tourist region.

It is a region in the south of Lisbon and the Tagus river (Tejo, in Portuguese).The land is flat and very green. There you can find the culture of rice. They also raise horses and bulls.

This is the hottest and driest part of Portugal.There are big farms where people grow wheat and rye. Cork trees are one of the most important Portuguese productions.
