Sunday, March 11: Chosen: Where Do I Go from Here? Meet in Johnson Hall, 12:00-2:00 p.m. We’ve solidified our understanding of our faith, we have gone on retreat, we have prepared ourselves to receive an outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Confirmation – what about afterward? In this session, we will look to the future – Confirmation is not a graduation. Confirmation strengthens us to go forward in boldness to preach and defend the Gospel. We join the ranks of great saints and missionaries who were sent forward to proclaim and build the kingdom. Where our classes end, your adventure is just beginning.
Elevate Junior High Youth Ministry – Meet in Johnson Hall, 3:00-4:30 p.m. A lot of questions come up when we talk about prayer: What is Prayer? How do we Pray? Is there a certain way to Pray? When I pray, will God answer me? Prayer is an ongoing conversation with God. It is not Part of our relationship, it IS our relationship. Together we will look at how we can get closer to God through prayer and what we can do when prayer may seem like a chore.
Summit High School Youth Ministry – Meet in St. Francis Cafeteria, 6:00-8:30 p.m., Disciplines of a Disciple – Grace: God’s life within us; a gift, freely given by our Lord. Sadly, many Catholics believe that God’s grace is something they have to earn. In this session, we’ll discuss God’s grace both as a free gift and as God’s life within us.

LENTEN ACTIVITIESSt. Francis de Sales Lenten Homily Series – Beginning Ash Wednesday and every weekend during Lent, Father Dave will preach a series of homilies about the Mass, helping us gain a deeper understanding in our faith as Catholic Christians. This series can help us learn how the Mass is biblical, from start to finish. Encourage friends and family to attend with you!
Liturgy of the Hours evening prayer at St. Francis – Wednesdays, beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the Church – This is the prayer of the church worldwide and a wonderful way to deepen your Lenten experience. Handouts will be available but we ask that all who are able please
download the FREE iBreviary app from the app store or Google play store in order to follow along with responses. This is a great way to prepare for the Sacrament of the Eucharist at Mass directly following at 6:30 p.m.
Stations of the Cross at St. Francis – Fridays, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Church – Join us in prayer and meditation through the Stations of the Cross, where we commemorate Jesus Christ’s last day on Earth as a man. The 14 stations may be thought of as a mini-pilgrimage as
we move from station to station, recalling the specific events from Christ’s last day.

40 Days, 40 Cans: A Can-A-Day for Lent: As we prepare for Easter and the Resurrection of the Lord, consider making a sacrifice for the hungry of our community. The St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry is sponsoring a “40 Days, 40 Cans” campaign. Each
family is asked to donate 40 cans to the pantry as their “works of love” during Lent. The pantry is in need of canned fruit, beans, soup, spaghetti sauce, skillet dinners and personal items (toilet paper, toothpaste, laundry detergent). Families may also make a monetary donation to the pantry by placing a check in the offering, listing the food pantry in the memo section of the check. Deposit foods in the cart at the main entrance to St. Francis de Sales Church. Thanks for thinking of the pantry during this most holy season.

Ecumenical Lenten Services and Luncheons: The Ecumenical Lenten Service and Luncheon held at 2nd Presbyterian Church, 42 E. Church St. has been a Lenten tradition for many years. St. Francis was a part of this Lenten practice from the beginning. Unfortunately, we are not able to participate this year. A short service is led by the pastor of the host church at about Noon, followed by a luncheon prepared by the women of the host church. St. Francis parishioners should feel free to attend. The cost of the lunch is $7.00. Dates and host churches are as follows: March 14 at Second Presbyterian; March 21 at First Methodist.
AROUND OUR PARISH
Volunteers Needed! Dusting, sweeping and mopping may not be our favorite pastime, but it’s a wonderful way to serve the Lord and give back for all His blessings! Many hands make for quick work. The annual church cleaning is scheduled for Saturday, March 24, from 9:00 a.m. to Noon in the church. Please bring buckets, rags and elbow grease. Cleaning supplies will be furnished. Questions? Women of St. Francis – Spring Bingo party is scheduled for Wednesday, March 28, 3:30 p.m., at Altercare, Newark South, 17 Fory Street, Newark. Volunteers are needed to help the Bingo players and to donate prizes. The following donations would be
most appreciated: individually wrapped snack packs, large print puzzle books and stuffed animals. Prizes may be brought to our March meeting or by contacting Nancy Gifford at 740-366-3957. Interested in volunteering to help with the Bingo games and/or make a donation? Please contact Nancy.

The Turban Project is a beautiful ministry that started right here at St. Francis de Sales. Since we began in the Spring of 2014, we have donated over 15,700 in headwear to men, women, and children who experience hair loss due to chemotherapy or medical issues. We stock 31 hospitals; have 5 satellite projects in the United States and 4 in other countries. What can you do to help?1) We have workdays approximately once a month at Saints Peter and
Paul Retreat, 2734 Seminary Road, in Heath. The next two dates we are scheduled are Wednesday, March 28th and Tuesday, May 8th. We meet from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and lunch is provided. Just bring your smile and we will find something you can help with.
2) If you are on Facebook, look up The Turban Project page. Like and share us. We will reach more patients, get more volunteers, and donations.
3) Are you able to sew? We provide pre-cut ready to sew fabric and supplies. Zero cost to the volunteers. You can sew at home!
4) Help us raise funds to pay for postage and supplies that aren’t donated.

You’re Invited! The 2018 St. Francis de Sales Mother-Daughter Tea “An Afternoon in Wonderland,” Saturday, April 7, beginning at 11:45 a.m. Each year, the event features tea (of course!) and lunch, a vendor marketplace, a silent auction, ticket raffle and other fun activities. Funds raised by The Mother-Daughter Tea benefit the St. Francis de Sales Parent-Teacher Association, and go toward providing the children of
St. Francis de Sales with “extra” things that tuition costs simply do not cover, such as special art projects, assemblies and classroom trips. Tickets are $15.00 each, and can be purchased by sending cash or check payable to St. Francis de Sales School in an envelope (Attn: Mother-Daughter Tea/Shannon Caudill). Please specify names of attendees and any seating requests (tables accommodate 8 people). Reservations will be held, though no paper tickets will be distributed. SPOTLIGHT ON OUR SCHOOL!Our School Spotlight is shining bright on our Art Department, headed up by Gretchen Bjornson. Genius is at play in every single one of her classes! Once a week, the students of St. Francis de Sales School learn how to think like an artist. When they
enter the art room, it’s not about artistic talent; it’s problem solving, learning from your mistakes and turning your mistakes into something beautiful! Students create, play and experiment with a variety of tools and materials such as clay, paper, printing plates, oil pastels, paints, markers and pencils. Art Club meets periodically through the year. Most recently, students in Art Club created tape sculptures that are displayed in various places around the school. It is a great time to be a part of St. Francis de Sales School!
Computer Science Instructor Needed: St. Francis de Sales School is always reaching for Academic Excellence. Always moving toward this goal, St. Francis de Sales School is planning to launch a computer science coding curriculum in

The ROSARY…and a Special Grandmother…
There is something very special for parents and grandparents when they recognize the positive influence they have had on their children and grandchildren. Such was certainly the case for Rosa Margherita Vassallo, 1884 to 1974…the Grandmother of Pope Francis. Although she has gone on to her heavenly reward, her grandson, our Pope, speaks of her in many of his homilies…even the major ones in St. Peter’s Square. When her Jesuit grandson was about to be ordained, she said to him: “Celebrate Mass, every Mass, as if it were your first and last.” She truly recognized the significance and importance of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Her face, and especially her eyes, would glow when she talked about the Consecration and the TRUE PRESENCE of Our Lord on the altar. Little did she know that her grandson would go on to become our Pope. This coming Tuesday is the Fifth Anniversary of Pope Francis’ papacy. On March 13, 2013, (3-13-13), the words “Habemus Papam,” (we have a Pope), were heard by the large crowds in St. Peter’s Square; church bells rang out to announce the selection of Cardinal Bergoglio as the new Pontiff.
Remember, you and your family are always invited to take part in our weekly Rosary for Peace, every Saturday at 4:35 p.m., just before Mass.
