1 Q3 To investigate how the amplitude A of sound transmitted through a double-glazed window is related to the air pressure p in the space between the panes. In the investigation, the independent variable is the air pressure between the two pieces of glass in the double glazed window while the dependent variable is the amplitude of the transmitted signal. The setup of the apparatus 1. The apparatus is set up as shown in the diagram. 2. The sound signal from the generator is directed p erpendicular ly at the double glazed glass. 3. The loudspeaker of the signal generator and the microphone is rotated so as to obtain maximum signal. The amplitude A of the signal received by the microphone and CRO is recorded. 4. The corresponding pressure P of the air in the space between the glass sheets of the double glazed window is measured with a pressure gauge. 5. With the help of the vacuum pump, some air is removed from the space between the glass sheets of the double glazed window. 6. Record the new pressure of air P indicated on the pressure gauge after allowing some time for the air inside the glass to stabilize. 7. Switch on the signal ge nerator and read the n ew ampli tude of the sound, A. 8. Repeat steps (5) to (7) for differen t air pressure by re moving or int roducing air i nto the space between the glass sheets. 9. The corresponding values of A, A 2  and P is recorded and tabulated. A graph o f  A 2  against P is plotted.
