Slipknot- Heavy Metal
The colours in this picture make the audience sense
distress as there are a mixture of white/grey/green and
blue (electric). The masks show of the bands a hidden
identity which connotes the type of music as it’s very dark
and mysterious. This uses the rule of thirds as the primary
optical area is blank shifting focus to the band there all in
black as this contrast with the masks it indicates they are
monstrous. This picture uses informal symmetry as there is
the same number of people on each side but all different
heights.
Arctic Monkeys – Indie
This picture uses the rule of thirds. The primary Optical Area makes
the audience focus on the top right of the picture but seeing the main
singer who is in sharp focus, it also uses shallow depth of field at the
top right as the characters are not focused as much. It’s also in black
and white which connotes the classic style of their band.
Katy Perry – Pop
This picture uses the rule of thirds as the primary optical

main impact of the photo. The colours of pink red and
yellow highlighting the genre of pop. Her face expresses a
seductive pose which will target males as well as females.
Lady Gaga – Pop
There is the rule of thirds used within this picture, in
the primary optical area there is a dead bird styled
headpieces highlighting the artist’s unique tastes. The
lighting is quite dull contrasting that her eyes are
closed connoting sleep. There is also informal
symmetry used on this photo as she is tilted within
the photo and more of the headpiece is too the left.
Kaiser Chiefs – Alternative Rock
