November Joint publication of the New England Fiero Association and Mid Atlantic Fiero Owners Association A PONTIAC CELEBRATION 2018 NEW RECORDS SET FOR ATTENDANCE, CARS SHOWING, MONEY RAISED! Submitted by: Gwen Randolph This show gets bigger and better. Held every two years since 2010 this show, with the generous help of Pontiac enthusiasts, has raised lots of money for the two children's cancer charities – The Tomorrow Fund and Alex's Lemonade Stand. Checking out license plates of attendees from New England and beyond, you see how avid Pontiac enthusiasts are regarding these two charities. Check out Page 5 in this issue for the news release from organizers for the show, links to stories on the Pontiac Registry website and pictures from the show. According to an email I received from Rick, the local show organizer, this year’s celebration was a tremen- dous success with 255 Pontiacs on the show field on Saturday, which is the most to date. The Fiero class had a good turnout with 14 Fieros of all years and models displayed along the driveway up to the hotel. The Pontiac Performance Engine Build this year, built and donated by Nitemare Performance raised an add- itional $10,000. There were a limited number of tic- kets sold over the spring and summer and the lucky winner was announced at the banquet. Rick tells me that approximately $15,000 will be donated to the two charities this year. A weekend show, a lot of the NEFA members stay at the hotel. Phil & I probably live 20 minutes from the hotel, but always choose to stay at the hotel so we don't miss out having fun with friends. I understand plans are already in the works for the 2020 Celebration show. Hopefully you'll join in the Pontiac/Fiero fun in 2020. This show gets bigger and better. Held every two years since 2010 this show, with the generous help ofPontiac enthusiasts, has raised lots of money for the two children's cancer charities – The Tomorrow Fund and Alex's Lemonade Stand. Checking out license plates of attendees from New England and beyond, you see how avid Pontiac enthusiasts are regarding these two charities. Check out Page 5 in this issue for the news release from organizers for the show, links to stories on the Pontiac Registry website and pictures from the show.

According to an email I received from Rick, the local show organizer, this year’s celebration was a tremen-dous success with 255 Pontiacs on the show field on Saturday, which is the most to date. The Fiero class had a good turnout with 14 Fieros of all years and models displayed along the driveway up to the hotel.

The Pontiac Performance Engine Build this year, built and donated by Nitemare Performance raised an add-itional $10,000. There were a limited number of tic-kets sold over the spring and summer and the lucky winner was announced at the banquet.

Hopefully you'll join in the Pontiac/Fiero fun in 2020.

used on the 350 engine in a Camaro, a Nova, a Monte Carlo and a Chevelle. The same holds true for casting numbers. On a 1968-79 Nova, Camaro, Chevelle & Monte Carlo the casting number on thatsame 350 engine is 3932388. So the numbers are “CORRECT” for the car, which means it could have the original engine. Or Not !

For those of us who are interested in collecting cars, we frequently hear three terms that are used in des-cribing, “VALUABLE COLLECTOR CARS”

I’ve been to many car shows and cruise nights where there is the talk of NUMBERS MATCHING or NUMBERS CORRECT or DOCUMENTED. I have and I’m sure many of you have been asked, what do these terms mean? In fact, some people think they all mean the same thing. Some will ask which is cor-rect, or which should they look for. In fact, each term has a different meaning while at the same time, each can change the value of the vehicle in question. Num-ber matching cars typically will have a much greater value than non-number matching cars.

So, which one is the best to look for when you want to buy or sell your car? In my opinion, to have the perfect and most valuable vehicle all three are your best bet. However, Numbers Matching & Numbers Correct are a safe investment. Documented is icing on the cake! You be the judge.

I will give some brief information based on my 48 years of repairing, rebuilding, researching, buying, selling, showing and judging show cars.

What do we mean when we say a car is a Numbers Matching car?

That means that when you check the numbers that are stamped on the engine, transmission and the differential, they all match the sequential, i.e. the last 6, numbers in the VIN or Vehicle Identification Num-ber. As we know, these stamped numbers can be changed. However, there are ways to “raise” the orig-inal numbers.

Numbers Correct on the other hand, means somethingvery different. For example, on a Chevy Nova with a 350 engine and manual transmission, when you checkthe engine numbers, you should see the letters CKA stamped on the pad. Problem is that CKA was also

THE NUMBERS MUST ADD UP

The last part is the Documentation. That is the paper-work that came with the vehicle, such as the Build Sheet, the Window Sticker, the Dealer Order Form, or the original Vehicle Registration papers. These docu-ments will show what equipment was ordered and what was actually installed on the vehicle at the fac-tory and who the vehicle was sold to.

Don’t get me wrong. If you are looking for that cer-tain, perfect car, there are other things, besides stamped numbers, that need to be considered. Thereare also “Clock Positions” cast into the parts that will tell what shift the part was made on. And there are cast in “date codes”. And each of these codes should relate to the date and time the rest of the car was built.

I could go on and on but, the bottom line is to doyour homework. There are many sources that youcan use to help you to figure out if what you’relooking at is really what it’s advertised to be.

A PontiacCelebration

2018Warwick, Rhode Island – September 21 – 23

The 2018 “Pontiac Celebration” Eastern Regional Meet was a huge success, setting all new records. Once again, our event has grown in the number of great Pontiacs showing and the number of Pontiac hobbyists enjoying this special weekend gathering.

Not forgetting the purpose of this event - “Pontiacs with aPurpose” - many gave their time, energy, and contribu-tions to our children's cancer charities. Alex's Lemon-ade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer and The Tomorrow Fund helping children and families affected by cancer. To date nearly $50,000 has been donated by “A Pontiac Celebration” from 2010 through 2018. All because of our generous Pontiac enthusiasts. Proving how great Pontiac people are!

While a few Pontiac lovers arrived as early as Thursday tohelp with the event, many more rolled in Friday to parti-cipate in our area-wide “Teddy Bear Cruise” that evening.Live music, food, and drink attracted many great cars of all types, makes and models cruising in for the fun.

The big even was the All Pontiac Car Show on Saturday. Sunny fall weather made for a great day. We were happyto see 255 beautiful Pontiacs on the show field. Once again many local and surrounding area Pontiac clubs came in force to make our event a huge success. We thank everyone for their support. As our event has grown in cars showing, so has the Saturday banquet a-wards dinner. The evening's sprawling BBQ dinner spread was enjoyed by a hungry crowd after a full day of fun and activities.

But the high point of the banquet was when the many awards were given out to all who worked so hard pre-paring their their cars. Top award of the evening - “Peo-ple's Choice” - went to Keith Bailey with his beautiful 1910 Oakland.

In addition, the vacation raffle saw a lucky winner head-ing off to a luxury condo vacation in the mountains of New Hampshire.

Fieroisms

Submitted by: Bruce Homeyard

You will never have enough time, energy or money to complete a kit car.

No matter how well you speak Italian you will never pronounce Fiero correctly, even when speaking Italian on an unrelated subject.

If your Fiero runs good, you must be in heaven.

Your "parts car" is best used for storing all the things that came off your primary car because what you needed is also bad on it.

A true Fiero fan believes that there were only 5 years in history 84 thru 88 everything else is X years BF (Before Fiero) or X years AF (After Fiero) there is no other marker of time.

I have often thought that the Fiero Chilton’s manual should include WARNING!

The hour prior to changing the pulley belts on your Fiero should be dedicated to practicing yoga and body contortion exercises. The hour after should be dedicated to post traumatic stress and anger management.
