President’s Message September 2013
Oh say it isn't so! As the leaves begin to turn and
the car show circuit winds down, so comes to an
end does summer. Even as summer comes to a
close, there is a bit of life left. Some members
will cruise over to Yakima and Paterson for
shows. Locally Riverside Ford and Mustang's West are favorite shows too.
Even as the shows come to an end, monthly cruises and events start ramping
up. We are still looking for someone to take charge and organize a September
outing. If interested, contact a board member and we will get it on the calen-
dar.
Some sad news to report. One of our club's co-founders, Bill Ochs, recently
passed away. Services were held August 31st at Good Shepherd Lutheran
Church. The club sent flowers. Several members attended the service. Thank
you Bill for pulling us all together. I know the club has changed my life. You
will be remembered.

The car show was another huge success! Thank you to everyone that partici-
pated, planned, and headed up committees and especially our co-chairs
Monika and Charlene for a great show! For those interested, the next car show
meeting will be held at the Lanigan's home on September 10th at 7:00 pm.
We will be wrapping up this years' show before we begin to plan for next years'
show.

ings on the third Tuesday of each month, get involved and organize events. The
4 officers are required to be members of MCA, which the club pays for. If you
are interested or even if you just want more information, contact any one of
our current members now serving on the Executive Committee. Those mem-
bers are:

Vice-President-Bryan Zimbelman

Tip Of The Month
Mr. Clean Magic Erasers. Yep, you heard me Mr. Clean Magic Erasers. I recently
discovered these are great to get rid of film on the inside of your windows, dust
your dash, and even eliminate smudges you find in the finish of your car's
paint.

I bought my 2007 GT with the GT appearance package, brand
new in October 2006 and it has been my daily driver every
since. I have driven it all over Washington and Oregon on road
trips, rallies, etc. and it fits in nicely with the other Fords that I
own, which include a 1965 Mustang hardtop, a 1963 Mercury
Comet S-22 and 1972 F250. Mustangs and Fords have been in
my family since before I was born. The 1965 has been in my
family since 1974 when my mom received it for her graduation present, I can remem-
ber riding around in it while growing up. I bought my F250 from my Grandfather when
I was sixteen. When I turned eighteen I was given the 1965 Mustang. The Comet was
a car I worked on in auto shop in high school for my math teacher. A few years after I
graduated my brother had the same teacher and found out the car was for sale. That
was all I needed to know and bought the car.

Mission Statement
IN LOVING MEMORY
It is with sadness we announce the passing of charter and lifetime
member Bill Ochs on August 15th. A graduate of Lincoln High
School, he attended UW and UPS and was a 32 year educator for
Tacoma Public Schools.
During the summer of 1991, Bill noticed while attending Mustang
car shows that at almost every show he attended, there were other
attendees from the Pierce County area. In talking with these folks
it was suggested that they start up their own Mustang club and
thus was born the Pierce County Mustang Club.
Bill is survived by his girlfriend of 21 years Toby Barton and his
three children, Dawn, Brian, Mark, 3 grandchildren and one great
grandchild.
To those of you who attended Bill’s services, drove your Mustangs
and wore club colors, thank you...Bill would be so pleased.

People’s Retirement Home Display By Missy Willert
Page 14
Pony News September 2013
The cold, cloudy, dreary morning soon turned to a
hot sunny afternoon. Just perfect for getting the cars
ready in the morning and enjoying residents and
participants in the afternoon. Eleven cars, and that
pesky new Harley, turned up to display their beauti-
ful vehicles for the residents of the retirement
home.
Several residents and neighbors came out and en-
joyed the cars. The delight on their faces and conversations made it all worth while.
There were no trophies at this event, the purpose was purely to entertain the resi-
dents; giving them a chance to get out and about to stroll through the ponies and
interact and chat with a new group of folks.
The center fed us a tasty lunch of burgers, dogs and fixings. We signed up a new
member and peeked the interest of another. Another great day in the Northwest!
2013 Pierce County Mustang Club Car Show By Monika Kirkland
Page 15
Pony News September 2013
This year’s car show concluded our guest performance @ the South Hill Mall. With the
Mall’s new leadership and a new restaurant needing more parking, our Show field was cut
the middle of July. Thanks to Pete & Nancy’s pleading with the Mall, we were able to get 2
more rows of parking. Even so, it proved to be tight quarters. 82 spaces were lost plus
Sears did not help by parking 2 Vans in the Show field. A move to Griot’s Garage for next
year’s Show is in the works.
A big heartfelt Thank You goes out to all the volunteers who made it all happen.
We registered a record 183 cars. 69 cars pre-registered. In addition to saving $ 5.00 off
the entrance fee, our goodie bags (pre-registration only) held some fantastic loot. The best,
I can remember. So for next year: Pre-register, pre-register…. There was also a freebie table
that held not only catalogues and informational items. It also had coupons, silicone brace-
lets as well as pens & pencils. Oh yeah, not to forget some lollipops.
The weather was great and the food vendor had some excellent fixings, I was told.
Korum Ford had some new, good looking rides on display and the Kiwanis of Gig Harbor
sold raffle tickets for their 1st Generation Mustang. You can also find a link on our web
page for a 1st Generation Mustang that the North Olympic Mustang Club is raffling off.
Due to space restraints, that group was unable to display their car.
We had 2 photo vendors that do photo as well as digital painting of your beautiful ride. I
saw one finished product that just looked terrific. Costco provided us with much needed
bottled water. Pammy did an excellent job with our general raffle. That table boosted over
70 primo items that were well received. She netted $ 1,163.00. The gold coin raffle
brought in another $ 56.00.
Our Backpack drive collected 24 stuffed backpacks along with $ 120 cash donations. We
turned those items along with $291 from the 50/50 raffle ( which was won by Missy
Willert ) over to Diane Formoso from the charitable organization “ Caring for Kids”. With
that amount netted, some hard core 50/50 ticket sellers had been at work .

See you there!
Mustangs West took home the Club Participation Award with 22 member cars present.
This was PCMC first year not voting at the show and just glancing over the results our club
took home @ least 19 trophies. Not bad. Not bad at all. Not to mention the majority of
members said it was wonderful to just send the day checking out the rides without a time
constraint.
Registration showed 163 Mustangs and 20 Non Mustangs.
Thanks again to all who came out and those who helped to make the Car show a success.
We netted $ 6023. And for next year, remember to pre-register.

Pony News September 2013
It was a cloudy day as 4 ponies met in Lacey to travel to Shelton for a new adventure. They
stopped for feed in Shelton, knowing that they had a day full of fun waiting ahead of
them. They trotted onto the Paddock to their special pony stall to rest and were met by
two more Pierce County Mustangs and a whole lot more other ponies. The track day be-
gan with 2 ponies already experience in B group, hitting the track to stretch their skills.
While the other 4 met with riding coaches to help them learn the secrets of the track. One
of the 4 was released to run on his own. The other 3 listened and learned, until one by
one they were allowed to run on their own too. They had riders join them for the excite-
ment of the track. Passing slower Ponies, and letting the faster Ponies pass them. By the
end of the day, they were no longer Ponies but Wild Mustangs Racing the Ridge.

Pony News September 2013
The Pierce County Mustang Club doesn’t only know how to throw a great car show
year after year they also know how to throw a great Family Picnic. I have been going
to the yearly family picnics since 2008. Every year the club never ceases to amaze
me. This year has been tops thus far. Charlene Rivera and Joanie Norlund and all
their helpers put on a fantastic Picnic.
As always the food was great. The Club provided the yummy chicken that seemed to
go as quick as a red Shelby. The games were fun. I won’t bore you with tempting you
to read all the fun. Just sit back at look at the collage of pictures from the picnic.
