We want to solve the problem of children with a lot of money don’t have enough room in a regular sized piggy bank to hold all their coins.

Describe the problem you want to solve.

Page 3: Piggy Ramp Challenge #3

Make a list of possible ways to solve this problem.

Solution 1: Have 2 piggy banks.

Solution 2: Make a bigger piggy bank

Solution 3: Put money in a different container

Draw pictures and diagrams to show your invention and how it might work.

You insert a coin into a slot which travels down ramp and hides your money in the Piggy Ramp.

Build your prototype. Write down each step so that you will remember exactly how you built your model.

Step 1. Get a shoebox Step 2. Cut a hole in the top but not all the wayStep 3. Make a ramp with 2 triangles, 2 rectangles, 2 big square rods, and 2 small square rods out of woodStep 4. Hot glue the pieces together and it makes a ramp Step 5. Trace the ramp on hot pink poster board and hot glue the pieces of posterboard.Step 6. With the leftover wood get 4 small square rods, a long rectangular piece.Step 7. Cut a hole the size of the rectangular piece.Step 8. put the rectangular piece through the hole and glue the pieces 4 square pieces on the end and the middle.Step 9. We then wrapped it in Santa Claus wrapping paper.

Perform some experiments to find out how well your prototype works. Write down the results of each test.

Experiment 1: We tested a coin to see if it would go into the piggy ramp. The coin got stuck on the lever and we had to jiggle the lever to get the coin off.

Experiment 2. We tested another coin to see if it would go into the piggy ramp. The coin did not get stuck so we knew it was successful!!

Page 7: Piggy Ramp Challenge #3

How can you improve your prototype?

We could have painted it instead of wrapping it.

We could have moved the lever and positioned it better so the coin will not get stuck on its way down the ramp.

We could have moved the ramp a little so that coins could get into the bank better.

Give your invention a name and explain why people should buy it.

Piggy Ramp

People should buy it because it scatters their money when it goes down the ramp and it has a trapdoor so it can hide your money.
