Staunch Services – Piling Foundation

❖ Rotary Piles

Rotary Bored Piles can be used to support any structure where the highest load carrying capacity is required. This technique offers larger diameter piles than any other piling method and is used in pile construction through particularly stiff or hard strata. We have the capabilities to produce piles up to 2800 mm in diameter and using a range of specialist methods, pile lengths of up to 70 m can be achieved.

The construction methods are determined by the geology of the site — whether the boring will be in ‘dry' or 'wet', but stable, ground conditions, or through using either bentonite or polymer support fluids in unstable ground conditions. Rotary bored piles are ROTARY constructed using self-erecting hydraulic rigs. Our impressive range of rigs are capable of meeting the demands of even the largest project.




❖ Tripod- Winch Piles

Tripod Piles are most conventional method of Boring. It can be used to support any structure where the highest load carrying capacity is required. This technique offers larger diameter piles than any other piling method and is used in pile construction through particularly stiff or hard strata especially in remote location, it’s most cost effective because of its ease simplicity. We have the capabilities to produce piles up to 2000 mm in diameter and using a range of specialist methods, pile lengths of up to 60 m can be achieved.




❖ Rock Anchoring

Anchors are often used for resisting cyclic or dynamic loading caused by wind or fluctuating

water tables. They are also used to limit or restrict structural movement due to anchor steel

elongation. Common applications for pre-stressed earth anchors are tower foundations, tie

back walls, slope and dam stability, and tunnel bolting. Non-tensioned anchors or passive

dowels are often used for temporary support, resisting shear loads, static loading, or for

applications with low consequences of failure.

Rock anchors are used in civil and mining structures to counteract uplift forces acting on

foundations and post-tension existing concrete structures. Rock anchors are made of high

tensile steel, and typically they are anchored in sound bedrock by means of high strength

cementitious grouting for foundations and through holes drilled into or through a structure

for post-tensioning applications. For most applications the rock anchors are tensioned to a

force higher than what is necessary to resist the foundation uplift force. When no tensioning

is applied to the rock anchors they are called rock bolts. Both rock anchors and rock bolts are

eventually grouted on their full length; however rock anchors may be grouted in two steps

to allow for a certain free tensioning length after the first step. Some of the most common

uses for rock anchors and bolts are to provide tie backs for bridges, to increase stability of

walls, slopes, and dams, to secure surface in mines and tunnels or to secure structures against

forces from wind or vibrating machinery.




❖ Uplift vertical Rock Anchor / Passive Anchoring

A rock anchor is a steel bar or strand that is installed into a drilled hole in the ground or into rock

and then grouted. Rock anchors, which provide horizontal and vertical resistance strength to a

structure, are SCC's specialty.

Rock and ground anchors are similar to Micro Piles, yet they provide only tensile support and are

typically constructed of grouted thread bar or strand anchor. Rock and ground anchors can be used

to resist uplift loads from towers, retaining walls, tall- relatively thin structures, bridges and any

other applications where tensile loads need to be resisted by the underlying rock or ground.




Rock Anchors are proposed to resist the uplift force that might be induced on the foundations due

to hydrostatic pressure or wind loads etc. Passive Rock Anchors are installed by drilling a hole of

suitable diameter, installing bent up bar in the hole, cleaning the hole and then grouting the hole as

per specifications laid down by the designer.

❖ Drilling & Grouting

Grouting operations are performed to seal, strengthen or consolidate rock and soil in for

example dams and foundation works. When drilling grout holes, rotary drilling and percussive

drilling are the most commonly used methods. In tunnels, gallery grouting is made in a fan

pattern to strengthen the lining of the excavation.

Jet grouting is a method to reinforce the ground by pumping in a cement paste into the soil

at high pressure, with purpose to build either cement columns or totally consolidate the

formations.

Grout can be used to fill voids beneath and lift roadway slabs and building slabs. Grout can

also be used to fill cracks in rock exposures improving slope stability. Grout is also a part of

soil nailing, tie back anchors and micro piles, providing additional structural capacity and

providing the bond between the reinforcing elements and the ground.




❖ Micro Piles

Micro piles, also Known as mini piles, (and less commonly as pin piles, needle piles and root piles)

are deep foundation elements constructed using high-strength, small-diameter steel casing and/or

threaded bar. Capacities vary depending on the Micro pile size and subsurface profile. Allowable

Micro pile capacities in excess of 1,000 tons have been achieved.

They are usually used for extension of existing buildings who have been granted FSI or TDR and also

for projects where pilling is to be executed with minimum vibration to the adjacent existing

foundation and also for RCC retaining walls or shoring piles where there is restriction of space and

founding strata is a deep levels. We use heavy duty truck mounted percussion DTH Rigs or chain

mounted rotary rigs for micro piles ranging from 150 mm to 300 mm dia.

Geotechnical, Micro pile is most suitable in the following ground conditions:

▪ Shallow Bedrock

▪ Intermediate Hard Strata

▪ Boulders and Cavities

▪ Underpinning




❖ Sheet Piles/ Coffer dam Piles

Sheet piles are sections of sheet materials with interlocking edges that are driven into the ground to provide earth retention and excavation support. Sheet piles are most commonly made of steel, but can also be formed of timber or reinforced concrete.

Used for:

• River to form cofferdam




❖ Odex Piles

Odex piles are formed by drilling and hammering a steel casing into the ground. The drilling is done with a down the hole hammer which has the capacity to bore through obstructions and into solid rock, this borehole can be continued into the rock as an open hole. Concrete is then pumped into the hole and a steel reinforcing cage can be installed. The steel casing can be removed or left in place.

Used for:

• Drilling through boulders / obstructions

• Installing temporary and permanent casing

• Drilling rock sockets

• Pre drilling Wide variety of sizes up to 2 Min diameter




❖ Soil Nailing

Soil nailing is a technique used to bring soil stability in areas where landslides might be a

problem. Soil nail can prevent landslides by inserting steel reinforcement bars into the soil

and anchoring them to the soil strata. It is called Soil Nail, because it's like having a nail being

hammered into the soil, where the nails, are the steel bars. Soil nailing is a stabilization

process used to build retaining walls or shoring systems when space is limited. The process

starts by installing threaded steel bars into slopes or cuts made into the soil. Grouted bars

are installed to create a stable mass of soil. Then a temporary or permanent facing is applied

to retain and support the existing soil.

Soil nailing is a construction remedial measure to treat unstable natural soil slopes or as a

construction technique that allows the safe over-steepening of new or existing soil slopes.

The technique involves the insertion of relatively slender reinforcing elements into the slope

— often general purpose reinforcing bars (rebar) although proprietary solid or hollow-system

bars are also available. Solid bars are usually installed into pre-drilled holes and then grouted

into place using a separate grout line, whereas hollow bars may be drilled and grouted

simultaneously by the use of a sacrificial drill bit and by pumping grout down the hollow bar

as drilling progresses. Kinetic methods of firing relatively short bars into soil slopes have also

been developed. Bars installed using drilling techniques are usually fully grouted and installed

at a slight downward inclination with bars installed at regularly spaced points across the slope

face. A rigid facing (often pneumatically applied concrete, otherwise known as Shotcrete) or

isolated soil nail head plates may be used at the surface.




❖ Gunniting & Shotcreting

The Gunniting is the most effective process of repairing concrete work which has been damaged due to inferior work or other reasons. It is also used for providing an impervious layer. Gunite and Shotcrete are common terms used to describe mixtures of port land cement and sand which are applied to vertical surfaces and to damage concrete structures for repairs and rehabilitation.

The cement is mixed with slightly moist sand and then necessary water is added as the mixture comes out from the cement gun. A regulating valve is provided to regulate the quantity of water.

Shotcrete is a special mixture of concrete, high in cement and fly ash, with relatively fine aggregate. Shotcrete is applied pneumatically. Wet mix Shotcrete is ready mix, pumped through a line to the nozzle. At the nozzle, air is introduced to provide velocity for application. Dry mix Shotcrete is pumped through the line under air pressure. Water is added at the nozzle.

Shotcrete can be used for a wide variety of applications such as tunnel linings, building wall overlayment for additional strength and repair of concrete structures. Shotcrete is also used in combination with soil nail walls and occasionally with tie back walls.




❖ Pile Testing

We undertake all kind of Pile testing works, namely Static and Dynamic pile Load

Test, Shear test, Pull-out test and sonic test etc

A) Load test

This test is used to determine the “LOAD CARRYING CAPACITY” of a pile. This

test gives us the value of -ULTIMATE LOAD VALUE -SAFE LOAD VALUE -

SETTLEMENT UNDER DIFFERENT VALUES OF LOADS. We Provide Settlement

curve for loading as well as unloading from a pile load test. We deploy host of

man=power, tools and equipment`s such as Anchor Girder or Reaction Girders,

Hydraulic Jack, Power Pack, Test Pile, Anchor Pile, Dial Gauges, Reaction Truss

(in case of truss loading) or as per design requirements.




b) Pull out test

For ascertaining the tensile load that shall be taken up by the Passive Steel Anchor, Pull out test is conducted on the anchor. The pull-out test is a relatively very simple and fast test. The equipment used for this test is a simple hydraulic jack of requisite capacity. The hollow jack is lowered onto the anchor bar, grouted into place. A steel plate is welded or locked by mechanical means, on top of the anchor bar, just above the ram of the jack. Pressure calculations are made as to what is the maximum pressure that should be indicated on the pressure gauge for reaching the test load. The load is then divided into 4 equal parts and then the anchor is loaded in increments of the load interval. For each increment the elongation or displacement of the bar is measured in mm and tabulated. On reaching the final load the ultimate elongation at test load is recorded and the pressure is released.
