2015 was a year of reimagination about many important aspects of ourcity: our downtown, our river, our transit system. It was a year of innovationand growth for many organizations in our community. It was a year for ourcommunity to push boundaries, try new things, and set our sights on newhorizons.

Pillar is proud to be part of this evolution. In 2015, we worked with ourpartners preparing for London's first social innovation shared space,Innovation Works. We launched (and sold out) London's first everCommunity Bond. We brought the Canadian Conference on SocialEnterprise to London, proudly showcasing and supporting the many thrivingsocial enterprises in our city. We built new partnerships and invested insocial finance. We championed diversity in leadership through theDiverseCity onBoard program. We celebrated the stories of our sector at thePillar Community Innovation Awards with the largest crowd to date. Wesupported hundreds of nonprofits in London through our programs andservices, finding great joy in each and every opportunity to strengthen theimpact of the nonprofit sector in London.

2015 was a big year for Pillar, our sector, and our city. On behalf of the Boardof Directors and staff team, thank you to our Members, Sustainers,supporters, volunteers and many partners who have been part of ourjourney. We are encouraged by how far we have come together, and filledwith optimism about what is ahead.

International trends show an explosion of co-working hubs, with 1320 hubs globally in 2012, up88% from the year before. A few of them havepopped up right here in our Forest City over the pastyear and we will be joining their ranks soon with theonly co-working hub in London intentionallydesigned to encourage social innovation: InnovationWorks.

Innovation Works is an initiative designed by and forLondon and it has been exciting to see thecommunity buying in, literally! After the purchase ofthe Garvey building in 2014, we started a fundraisingcampaign through which we have raised over $1.5Mto support the renovation of this incredible space. InOctober 2015, we launched London’s first-everCommunity Bond. This innovative social impactinvestment opportunity sold out ahead of schedule,raising $1M in addition to funds raised through ourcampaign.

They say it takes a village. In this case, InnovationWorks is the village; a network of talented,committed, passionate individuals who believe in thepower of connection and the potential of socialinnovation to raise our city higher. The volunteerson our Project Team, our community partners, ourinvestors, our donors, our supporters, and ourtenants define this space. We look forward tocelebrating the opening of Innovation Works withyou in June 2016.ANNUAL REPORT | 4

Innovation Works will offerprivate offices, permanent desks,and a variety of flex-deskpackages with a set number ofhours per month, as well asmeeting and event space. Adedicated staff member will bringpeople together, animating,provoking and supporting tenantactivities that build fun,familiarity and social capital intothe network.

"For the past 5 years, the London Arts Council and London HeritageCouncil have been co-located resulting in a stronger resource forculture in London. Streamlined communication, shared resources andstaff expertise have increased our visibility in the community, theability to fund more programs and services in support of London’svibrant culture. Moving to Innovation Works will not only enhance ourexisting collaborative model but create opportunities to collaborate,communicate and grow with more like-minded organizations."

In April 2015, Pillar coordinated the Canadian Conference on Social

Enterprise. Three days. Over 350 delegates. 40 Speakers. 20 Exhibitors.

All levels of government in attendance. Extensive media coverage. The

Canadian Conference on Social Enterprise was a resounding success.

Receiving feedback on sessions and the opportunity to network were

both highlights for our visitors from across the nation.

Looking for a new way to supportSocial Change?

In April 2015 we welcomed AndreVashist to the Pillar team as ournew Social Finance Managerheading up VERGE a social financeintermediary serving London andsurrounding counties.

VERGE is a partnership betweenLondon Community Foundation,Sisters of St. Joseph and UnitedWay London & Middlesex, withPillar Nonprofit Network acting asthe backbone organization. Itsmission is to connect local caringinvestors with local enterprises thathave a social or environmentalmission at their core.

VERGE operates a Social EnterpriseLoan Fund in partnership withLibro Credit Union to provide loansto early stage high growth socialenterprises on the verge of abreakthrough. The SocialEnterprise Loan Fund programleverages our growingentrepreneurship ecosystem tocreate wraparound supportsbefore, during and after financing.

54FIFTY‐FOURCONNECTIONS TOLEARNINGPillar has consistently delivered qualityworkshops to the London community. Ourprofessional development program is asuccessful social enterprise designed tobuild success and inspire leadership inpeople and nonprofits. Our business modelis sustainable and effective and has beenshared with other communities acrossCanada. In 2015, attendees rated their levelof satisfaction between 80-100%, with 86.6%of attendees indicating that the workshopslived up to their expectations.

LEADERSHIP BEYOND THE BOX"Following the Relationship SystemsIntelligence workshop, the leader of a teamcontacted me to say that following thesession, she and her colleagues used thematerials to identify and "diagnose" whatwas unfolding in their team dynamic. Theyfeel they have a powerful opportunity towork proactively as a team to leveragecurrent strengths and to name and workwith the challenges that are holding them

ChangeTheWorld Ontario YouthVolunteer Challenge is a provincialcampaign funded by the OntarioGovernment in partnership with theOntario Voluntary Sector Network.Pillar is one of 23 centres participatingin this annual campaign. Once again,London was seen as a leader forengaging high school youth in volunteeractivities. We exceeded our goals with2,300 youth contributing 14,900volunteer hours between April 12 andMay 24, 2015 making positivecontributions to their community andgiving back in creative and meaningfulways.
