Pilton News Thursday 21st November 2019 Pilton State School Fairholme Swimming Program Next week we will be undertaking the Fairholme Swimming Program during the day on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (26-28 Nov.) This will be the culmination of the swimming lessons that we have had each week this term, setting students up for great gains in their swimming and providing the chance to have a safe swimming season over the summer holidays. This program will see students grouped by ability and have 6 intensive lessons over the three days. The transport for this is provided by bus and will be conducted without any impact on school start and pick-up times from school. Clifton Cluster Swimming Carnival – Year 3-6 Tuesday 3 Dec Our Year 3-6 students have been invited to compete in a swimming carnival at the Clifton Pool on the 3 Dec with Clifton State School and the other small schools in our cluster. This will be a great chance for students to put all their hard work in the pool to the test, and see how their swimming standards have been progressing since this time last year when we last recorded times for our students. As always, win- ning and losing is not of any concern and we expect all our Strong and Willingstudents to simply have a go and try their best. End of Year – Collect your photos for 2019 Mrs. Cox has done a tremendous job in filing all the photos from the many activities that our students have been involved in throughout 2019. If every fam- ily is able to send in a USB stick in the last week of the term, we will copy all the applicable images of your student/s onto a USB stick for you to keep. If anyone needs a hand with this, please come and let me know. Finally, I look forward to seeing many of you at the Bunnings BBQ this Saturday, or at the pickup from our great LeagueStars program that will be continu- ing on Thursday afternoons until Week 9 on the 5 th Dec. All the best, Jon Robertson With only a few weeks left at school for the year we are working hard to finalise assessment and end of year benchmarking with our students. It was fantastic to see the ICAS results for our Year 3-6 students come back this week. This competition is an international competi- tion of the highest academic standard, so I dont want students that received Participationawards to be dis- couraged. We have had some credits and distinctions but overall, any of the results received, help to motivate students to keep pursuing excellence in their academic endeavour rather than having a big fish-small pondview of their education. Report Cards and Parent Teacher Interviews I would like to encourage all parents to come up and see us during the last week of school to discuss your studentsprogress for the semester. As always, we are very keen to share the work that happens everyday at our school with parents and we value the united ap- proach to education that exists at our school. We will be sending Report Cards home on the Wednesday of the last week, and this will allow us to keep students actively engaged in the curriculum for as long as possi- ble. Prep Transition Day 2 – Next Friday 29 Nov We are very fortunate to have such a wonderful team of staff supporting our students coming into Prep. Miss Ryan and Miss Stewart are really looking forward to the second Prep Transition Day, and seeing the seam- less start to school that we can provide for children from our community. Prep students for 2020 are en- couraged to join us at 8:45am for Parade and then stay for the whole day taking part in Playgroup, targeted transition activities, a chance to meet Mr. Healy (in a shortened introduction to HPE) and have a heap of fun! Pilton Christmas Tree – End of Year Performance I look forward to seeing everyone at the Pilton Christ- mas Tree on Friday the 6th of December. We have been working on a short performance that will be in- cluded in the night called AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS MINUTES.We ask that all students be brought to school in order to prepare for the perfor- mance at 5:30pm and we will then walk them down to the hall to commence by 6:00pm. The hall commit- tee will be providing a BBQ after the performance and there is a tradition of gift giving that all parents need to be aware of, so please ask someone about this tradition if this is your first year in attendance. 24 Pilton Valley Road, PILTON Q 4361 Ph.: 0746964521 Fax: 0746964586 Term 4 Issue 4
