Pinecone Amigurumi

Materials:

50-130 yards of fingering weight yarn (shown in Knit Picks Comfy Fingering

Weight) or weight of your choice

Note: Heavier yarn weights will result in a larger Pinecone.

2.55 mm (US 0) crochet hook or size to create dense fabric

Stitch marker or scrap yarn

Your favorite stuffing

Scissors

Yarn needle

Small amount of thin ribbon (optional)

Glue (optional)

Stitches Used and Abbreviations:

Single crochet (sc)

Single crochet back loop only (sc-blo)

Single crochet 2 together (sc2tog)

Slip stitch (sl st)

Chain (ch)

Stitch (st)

Yarn over (yo)

Remaining (rem)

Note: Pattern uses US terminology.

Special Stitches:

Adjustable Ring: Loop yarn around your finger. Insert crochet hook into center of

ring, yo and pull up a loop, ch 1. Work subsequent sts into ring. Pull tail to close.

Increase (inc): 2 sc-blo in same st

Decrease/sc2tog (dec): [Insert hook in back loop of next st, yo and pull up a loop]

twice, yo and draw through 3 loops on hook

Shell (Sh): 3 sc in same st

Notes:

Pattern begins with pinecone base worked in the back loop only. The base is

worked in a spiral, meaning you do NOT slip stitch to join after each round. Instead,

mark first stitch with stitch marker or scrap yarn and move marker up as you work.

After pinecone base, yarn is joined to beginning stitches and scales are worked

into front loops left behind from sc-blo. Working into the front loops may be tricky near

the top and bottom of the pinecone but in my opinion, is much easier in the middle.

Pinecone Base:

1. Work 7 sc into adjustable loop.2. Inc in each st around.3. [Sc-blo in next st, inc in next st] around.4. [Sc-blo in each of next 2 sts, inc in next st] around.5. [Sc-blo in each of next 3 sts, inc in next st] around.6. [Sc-blo in each of next 4 sts, inc in next st] around.7. Inc in next st, sc-blo in each rem st around.8. Sc-blo in each st around.9. Sc-blo in each st around.10.Sc-blo in 1st st, [sc-blo in each of next 12 sts, dec over next 2 sts] around.11.Sc-blo in each st around.

1. Sl st to front loop of 1st st, Sh in next st, sl st in next st, [sl st in next st, Sh in nextst, sl st in next stitch] around. End with sl st. Fasten off.

Note: It is okay if you have 1 or 2 extra sts at the end.

Weave in ends. Sew ribbon to top of pinecone and tie if desired. Use glue to secure bow.
