1. SAFETY PRECAUTIONSThe following check should be performed for the continued protection of the customer and service technician.

ANY MEASUREMENTS NOT WITHIN THE LIMITS OUTLINED ABOVE ARE INDICATIVE OF A POTENTIAL SHOCK HAZARD AND MUST BE CORRECTED BEFORE RETURNING THE APPLIANCE TO THE CUSTOMER.

LEAKAGE CURRENT CHECKMeasure leakage current to a known earth ground (water pipe, conduit, etc.) by connecting a leakage current tester such as Simpson Model 229-2 or equivalent between the earth ground and all exposed metal parts of the appliance (input/output terminals, screwheads, metal overlays, control shaft, etc.). Plug the AC line cord of the appliance directly into a 120V AC 60 Hz outlet and turn the AC power switch on. Any current measured must not exceed 0.5 mA.

2. PRODUCT SAFETY NOTICEMany electrical and mechanical parts in the appliance have special safety related characteristics. These are often not evident from visual inspection nor the protection afforded by them necessarily can be obtained by using replacement components rated for voltage, wattage, etc. Replacement parts which have these special safety characteristics are identified in this Service Manual. Electrical components having such features are identified by marking with a > on the schematics and on the parts list in this Service Manual. The use of a substitute replacement component which does not have the same safety characteristics as the PIONEER recommended replacement one, shown in the parts list in this Service Manual, may create shock, fire, or other hazards. Product Safety is continuously under review and new instructions are issued from time to time. For the latest information, always consult the current PIONEER Service Manual. A subscription to, or additional copies of, PIONEER Service Manual may be obtained at a nominal charge from PIONEER.

1. SERVICE PRECAUTIONS1.1 NOTES ON SOLDERINGA

For environmental protection, lead-free solder is used on the printed circuit boards mounted in this unit. Be sure to use lead-free solder and a soldering iron that can meet specifications for use with lead-free solders for repairs accompanied by reworking of soldering. Compared with conventional eutectic solders, lead-free solders have higher melting points, by approximately 40 C. Therefore, for lead-free soldering, the tip temperature of a soldering iron must be set to around 373 C in general, although the temperature depends on the heat capacity of the PC board on which reworking is required and the weight of the tip of the soldering iron. Do NOT use a soldering iron whose tip temperature cannot be controlled.

B

Compared with eutectic solders, lead-free solders have higher bond strengths but slower wetting times and higher melting temperatures (hard to melt/easy to harden). The following lead-free solders are available as service parts: Parts numbers of lead-free solder: GYP1006 1.0 in dia. GYP1007 0.6 in dia. GYP1008 0.3 in dia.

7 Mode 7: Confirmation of the amplitude value that can be altered with a rotary volume The maximum amplitude value of a signal that can be altered with a rotary variable control on the operation panel and which is to be AD-converted can be confirmed with lighting of the Level Meter LEDs. The value is expressed by the number of LEDs lit.To measure the value, set the rotary variable control whose signal you wish to measure to your desired position. Press the SEND & RETURN ON/OFF button to start measurement. Press the same button again to reset. During measurement, the maximum amplitude value remains displayed. The SEND & RETURN ON/OFF button is lit during measurement and goes dark when measurement is reset. The details on the amplitude-value display are described below. The amplitude value of -1 to -5 relative to the value that can be altered with the variable control when measurement is started is displayed.

For a value +5 or higher or -5 or smaller, the top or bottom LED, respectively, is lit.C

As in Confirmation mode for values that can be altered with rotary variable controls (Mode 6), the variable controls are divided into 9 groups, according to sections, for LED displays. The correspondence between LED displays and the variable controls is the same as that in Confirmation mode for values that can be altered with rotary variable controls. Use of this mode during repair Use for failure judgment of the rotary variable control. The possible symptoms are shown below. It may be judged as defective if the amplitude value exceeds +4 or -4. The variable control can be set to any position during measurement. The sound volume change arbitrary. Interrupted sound leakage occurs even if the sound volume is decreased to the minimum at the Master or ZONE. The MIDI signal is output even if the variable control is not adjusted. Use for operation check of the rotary variable control after its replacement.

2. After downloading of the firmware is completed, disconnect the MINICUBE2 from the DJM-5000 then turn the DJM-5000 ON. Updating of the DSP program/data or the USB will be automatically started and completed. Caution!! If the DJM-5000 is on during the download, the DSP or the USB update is performed immediately after the MINICUBE2 is disconnected. (This is because the DJM-5000 is in reset status when connected to the host machine by the MINICUBE2 and reset status is cleared when the DJM-5000 is disconnected.) In this situation, do not turn off the power until the following DSP or the USB update is completed. Do not turn off the power during the update. Otherwise, the DSP or the USB may not restart. Once updating is started, NEVER turn the unit off until updating of the DSP or the USB is completed, as described below. If the unit is turned off during updating, the DSP or the USB may never operate again. To avoid such risk, it is recommended to supply power for downloading from the host machine to the DJM-5000 via the MINICUBE2 when downloading the firmware for updating the DSP or the USB to the main microcomputer. How to supply power during updating (The power supplied via the MINICUBE2 can be used only for downloading.)

C

Example: Progress of updating (in a case of updating the DSP program)1 While the data for updating the DSP program is being loaded The percent (%) complete is displayed with the CH1 Level Meter, as shown below. * The updating progress of the DSP data and USB program is indicated by the LEDs/buttons shown below.
