AMD’s long-operating presence in Malaysia plays a vital role for the company and has an important impact locally as well, with hundreds of employees working across sites. Our manufacturing facility in Penang was established in 1972, and our operations expanded in 2008 to include AMD Global Services operating both in Penang and Cyberjaya. AMD actively promotes our investments in Malaysia through ongoing relationships with various ministries at the Federal Government and state government level, industry associations, professional affiliations and university relations. We also take our corporate presence in Malaysia seriously and believe it is important to integrate corporate social responsibility into our business and ensuring that our employees and customer-focused values and culture reflect the way we conduct business. From volunteer efforts such as Penang mangrove planting on Earth Day to ongoing Environmental Health & Safety programs such as blood drives and community affairs, AMD believes having a positive impact on the communities we call home helps define who we are as a company.

MESSAGE FROM DEVINDER

AMD MALAYSIA

AMD Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

AMD Malaysia has been an active part of the Malaysian community for over four decades. Established in 1972, the state-of-the-art microprocessor assembly, test and R&D facility located in Penang was the first AMD advanced C4 “flip chip” assembly facility outside North America. AMD Global Services operate at two additional facilities in Penang and Cyberjaya. Incorporated in February 2008, this function obtained MSC Malaysia-status in July 2008 and supports AMD’s internal global network.

Since its inception, AMD Global Services has moved up the value chain from a mere transaction house to one that now performs complex analytics to support the AMD’s Business Units and Sales Organization globally. The array

of services provided have also expanded beyond finance when it was first started to now include Global Payroll, Global Tax, Marketing Operations, Credit Operations, Global IT, HR and Procurement Shared Services.

Strategically located in the heart of Asia and protected from natural disasters that typically impact other geographical areas, AMD Cyberjaya Malaysia location is an ideal place for AMD to grow and become one of the two AMD datacenter operations globally. It is also the only AMD data center outside of North America.

AMD’s Global Data Center in Cyberjaya began operations in December 2010. This state of the art data center has

enabled AMD’s business to streamline it operations across Asia (including Singapore and India). Since then, AMD Cyberjaya data center has grown tremendously to become one of the highest density (thousands of CPU cores per rack) and highly virtualized (more than 90%) data centers in the country, providing services to all business domains including manufacturing, corporate & financial services and R&D engineering.

“It is always a joy and such a pleasure to see the smiling faces of the people that we are able to help. I have been told by many people that we can’t save the world, but I truly believe that even one small gesture does mean a lot to the lives of the folks that we are able to touch. So let’s continue to give, to communicate and finally to connect.”
