Introduction

• Autism is a developmental disability that can effect a persons social and communication skills.

• Autism affects at least 1.1% of the population

• A diagnosis of Autism takes around 13 hours of professional time, between 6 months and 2 years and costs around £800.

• To compare the data with two previous data samples from a Community Paediatric Clinic.

• To check the parameters of coverage for the detection of children at risk and not at risk of Autism.

Methodology

• Recruited children from a local primary school

• Excluded those with any special educational needs and those without English as their first language

• 32 children assessed

• Each child's score transcribed onto a scoresheet

• Scores compared with clinic sample

• Some questions were identified that most children struggled with regardless of their age.

• Repetition of pirates names and lack of female characters.

• No randomisation of answers in the testing of sarcasm, lie and idiom.

Going forward…

• Well received in typically developing children

• Requires an adult to play with the child to gain most from the app

• Clear evidence that a larger scale study would be useful and should be feasible
