Stock Outboard Rules update

Ron Magnuson and Kyle Bahl are hard at work already in the Stock Outboard

Racing Commission (SORC). Chairman Jeff Brewster and the other SORC

members are having weekly conversations online through a private forum. So

far we have passed several rules for 2019. If you have anything more you want

addressed please send me or Ron and email (listed on page 8 here).

Rules passed:

4.7. In the event that a stoppage of a heat is necessary and the lead boat is on the final lap, the order of fin-

ish shall be determined by the order of the previous lap. The driver or drivers responsible for the stoppage

of the heat will not be scored. If the lead boat is not on the final lap, the heat must be restarted. This rule

does not apply at the closed course Divisional, North American, Eastern, Western and National

Championship races, where all heats (including qualifying heats) must be run to their full number

of laps as published on the circular.

19.8. Fred Miller Memorial Award This perpetual trophy was the gift of Fred's daughter Stacy Iwanicki in

2018. The trophy was originally won by Fred for his championship in B utility at the Winnebago, WI mara-

thon national championship in 1959. Fred attended the race for five years in a row from 1957 to 1961. He was

very successful in many of our runabout classes throughout his career. He managed the races in Trenton, MI

and Dayton, OH for many years and also created the APBA Hall of Champions. Prior to the marathon na-

tionals each year, one Stock Outboard class will be drawn in a lottery. The national champion in this

class will receive and hold this trophy for one year in Fred's honor.

18.1– Date security for Championships of Dec. 15th– Removed rule.

16.9– Competition committees– Removed rule.

Added a trailing edge definition to glossary: Reads– The trailing edge of the bottom of the boat is defined as

the aft most edge of the bottom, or in the case of a discontinuous trailing edge, the trailing edge is defined

as a straight line connecting the aft most point on the starboard side bottom to the aft most point on the

port side bottom. This straight line occurs on the main structural wetted surface between the air traps.

Rules still under consideration:/discussion

Rookie of the year criteria, Kill Switch lanyards length, 20ssh engine height

(302 vs. 321 tower height), 48” bottom diagram, Divisional Qualifiers (to get

rid of them and aline with MOD/J/PRO previous nats winner in the finals),

300ssh criteria (win high points and championships and leave class)

More to come. Please contact Ron and Kyle if you have any questions or

concerns.

300SSH report- Jason Diamond- Jason Diamond- Region 10 300ss is currently having rapid growth. The 2018 season began with 3 teams, and ended with 5. For 2019 we are adding 4 new teams to the returning 5 from last season. New 300ss motors have been ordered and are arriving in the Region. There are at least 2 new 300ss hulls that will hit the water in 2019. We should field a minimum of 9 boats in 2019.

Nationally there were 64 300ss participants, of which our teams that ran the whole season were all in the top 12 in National Hi Points.

Yamato 321 motors for 300ss are currently available to be sealed and shipped in January from both Tom (TJ) Johnston, and Jerry Davids. Sealed 321 motors for 300ss are $3135 plus ship-ping. The supply is somewhat limited.

Anyone interested in running 300ss in 2019 should contact Jason Diamond.
