I NTENTIONS

What is my documentary setting out to achieve?

My documentary is setting out to educate people on the rise in tuition fees . It will make people see why the government voted for the rise and how it will effect students .

What am I:

Challenging – I’m going to try and keep my documentary equal and not biasbecause I’m going university. My angle will be the differences between the two types of people, who are and aren’t going university .

Exploring – I’m going to explore what effects this rise in fees will have on the students . My angle will be what they will need to do to get money to pay it off or if there not going university then what they will be doing instead .

Investigating – I’m going to investigate why the government voted for the rise in fees. My angle will be why Nick Clegg changed his mind.

Proving – I’m going to prove that there was no need to raise the fees . My angle will be showing the difference of people attending university to now and before . As well as what it means for the poorer people .

LEGAL AND REGULATORYCONSIDERATIONS

BBC Editorial Guidelines

ChildrenI will make sure that the children I use will be safe and not harmed in anyway. For example, when I interview children for my vox pops, I have to make sure that they are not.

Truth and accuracyI will try and get the truth from interviews and source all of my findings. I will make sure to get all the facts before I say anything. For example, when accusing David Cameron or Nick Clegg I will make sure to know every fact.

PrivacyI will respect all privacy and will not break it unless I am allowed. For example, I will not disturb anyone's privacy to get an interview.

FairnessI will be fair and not biased. Contributors and audience will be treated with respect. For example, I will not be one sided when talking about who is to blame for the rise.

Page 12: Pitch

OFCOME Law

CriminalityI must not show crime or encourage people in doing a crime. For example, I must not show students how to get a grant if their parents own a lot of money.

Dealing with contributorsThis should normally be in a sighed form. If someone asks for anonymity I must make seek advice from my programme lawyer. An example is if one of the students I interview wants to be anonymous I have to ask my teacher/programme lawyer.

Page 13: Pitch

Media Law

DefamationHelps protect people or businesses when they come under unjustified attack. For example, if I say something that isn’t correct or out of line about David Cameron then this will protect them.

Contempt of courtStops the media showing anything that isn’t in favour of the people. For example, my documentary wont be shown if it is not liked by the people.

Privacy The law protects confidential information. Broadcasters must comply with the protection act 1998. For example, I cannot break this law by

Copy rightIt protects the rights to something that isn’t mine. For example, I cant copy other peoples work, or if I use archive footage I have to make sure that I ask them.

COMMERCIALVIABILITYBudget

Cost – £5959

I spent this money on equipment, like video cameras, macs, tripods etc. food for the crew, transport and communications.

I wont need all this money when making my documentary. I will only need money for:Trains – going to places (interviews or locations) - £10Food – For myself for lunch - £10

My documentary would provide good money for value because I will make it look professional with the shots I use and the places that I go to. Also if I get high status people as well.

Distribution and Exhibition

I will make sure my documentary meets all 3 of the BBC’s ethos:

Inform – About how much it will cost students to go university.Educate – On why the government voted for the rise.Entertain – Student life.

Page 15: Pitch
