Psychological Thriller This sub-genre incorporates attributes of a drama into a thriller. Normally the suspense built in these films are less physical and more mind based, the mental state of the protagonist tends to not be healthy or alternatively they must reply on their mental capability to help them solve their problem. Due to their tendency to be jumpy and have a violent discomforting nature, films of this sub genre sometimes cross over with the horror genre.

Sweet Insanity- Overview of our opening two minutesA bold black background presenting only our company logo, appears to start our opening sequence. Then an intense series of shots establishing the bathroom setting creates a tight atmosphere for our audience. This is where we are introduced to our female protagonist, Grace Smith. She is analysing herself in the mirror, dressed in a clean white towel conveying innocence. The harsh white bathroom lighting enhances Grace’s delicate features on her pale face. With warning from a loud alarming text tone, Grace receives a text message. Shown to the audience through an intense close up, Graces messages with her husband- these are not to be what is expected. After emphasising the light around our first character an intimate effect is created when the camera shot pans out to the dark corners of a back garden. Lurking in the shadows, introducing character number two- through their eyes a shot establishing Grace’s silhouette in the bright bathroom window, as she walks out we are still fixated on her womanly figure but through the unknown’s eyes. The next shot presents our female protagonist, standing preparing carrots in our candle lit kitchen setting. The tone of this serene setting makes the audience feel calm which then allows a shock when Grace’s phone begins to ring. She dries her hands in a rush before answering her call speaking “Hello babe”. Effectively, for the second time, the camera pans out into the taunting mystery of the back garden setting. Immediately establishing the French doors of the kitchen, which allows us to set eyes on Grace awaiting a reply from her husband on the phone. Character two is then properly introduced when Carter replies in a husky tone “Grace…” Revealing his presence in the back garden creates loads of suspense for the audience which is very effective as it will keep them intrigued. As the conversation dialogue plays out between our two protagonists, the establishing shot from the back garden starts to fade out into a bold black background presenting the film title “Sweet Insanity”, shortly after credits start to roll.

Back StoryGrace grew up in a very loving and big family home, she had a special relationship with her father who she dropped out of college to care
for at the age of 19. At 18 she met Carter Smith- her now husband, at a bar in Brighton when she was out with her sisters. She later
married Carter at the age of 22, so her father could walk her down the isle. Not long after the wedding Grace's father passed away and
Grace could not get over his and living in their family home reminded her to much of him so
she decided to move in with Carter at 23 in his deceased parents house in Brighton.
Ongoing StoryGrace now lives with her husband Carter smith in a big house in Brighton. As she has moved
away from her family, she very rarely gets to see them and she hates it. As she dropped out of
college to look after her dad she has no qualifications and still remains unemployed and fully dependent of Carter to support her. Carter supposedly works as a senior ops manager for a company that sells cameras. Grace hates this as
she is at home by herself a lot of the time. Carter always lets her down with the excuse its really busy at the office when in actual fact he
spends his days monitoring Grace, watching her as he slowly leads her to insanity.

parents both died in a tragic incident when he was 16 years old.
ONGOING STORY: Throughout the film, Carter lies to Grace about
working late at the office, when in actual fact he is watching her every move from their back garden. He
has camera systems set up around the house for Graces 'security' which he uses to monitor her during the days. His aim is to make Grace feel isolated, this
started when she moved away from her family in Birmingham. Carter makes sure that grace spends a
lot of time at home on her own which makes her start to resent her own company. Grace is being
smothered, spending so much time in an empty house by herself starts to take its toll on her and her
husband is behind it all. STRENGTHS: Carters main strength is the control over his wife that he has, as she is fully dependent on him.

Target AudienceSAFFRON PRODUCTIONSTARGET AUDIENCE
SAFFRON PRODUCTIONS
Our chosen target audience is A3- adults between the ages 16-34 as we think that our film is most suitable for these ages. As a psychological thriller is our chosen genre, we believe that this could make our film too intellectually demanding for a younger audience therefore an adult target audience is more realistic. We also believe that our film is suitable for both Men and Women as we have characters that can be relatable to both genders. Our protagonist eventually suffers from psychological health issues due to this we decided that our film rating needs to be 16+ as anyone of a younger age may be disturbed by the on goings of our film or they may not grasp an understanding of the concept that the film holds.

PropsBy having candles lit in our setting for the opening 00:02:00, we are trying to create a romantic atmosphere, to convey how much Grace values time with her husband. Also this prop can foreshadow the relationship between Grace and Carter as the candle flame burns slowly until there is nothing left- alternatively symbolising Graces mental state.
SAFFRON PRODUCTIONS
Our male protagonist’s costume is going to consist of an all black hoodie and black jeans. We have chosen this costume as we believe it will portray the darkness of Carter to the audience. Using a black hoodie also could foreshadow this characters mystery and hidden secrets- which opposes Grace’s costume.

As we are trying to portray her innocence, in our opening sequence Grace will be wearing minimal make-up. We hope that this will convey to our audience her vulnerability. As she is all natural, it could also convey how she has nothing to hide and she is completely honest.

Key TheoriesSAFFRON PRODUCTIONSKEY THEORIES
SAFFRON PRODUCTIONS
Claude Levi-Strauss The key theorist we believed was most relevant to our film was Claude Levi-Strauss- we decided this as we believe one of
the main themes that runs through our plot is the idea of the Strong Minded manipulating the Weak.
Levi-Strauss was a French anthropologist who studied Myths and Legends. His theory was that narratives were structured by pairs of binary oppositions.
Some examples of these binary opposites are:
Good Vs Evil
Strong Vs Weak
Protagonist Vs Antagonist
Ignorance Vs Wisdom
The Binary opposite themed throughout our film I would say was ‘Strong Vs Weak’. I think this because our female protagonist Grace is a very vulnerable young women, who fully depends on her husband, Carter Smith. This therefore makes her weak allowing Carter to use this to his advantage and manipulate her mental state.
