It� about making the right choices...

Life is different in the Sixth Form • You will study a much smaller range of subjects, ideally three or four.

• Yourworkwillbemorein-depthandmorepersonal.

• You will have the opportunity to play a role as one of the senior members of the School by holding responsibility and exercising leadership.

Sixth Form is about far more study. Success at this level depends on your attitude to work, motivation, self-disciplineandtheabilitytoworkonyourown – essential skills for university and life beyond.

At Pitsford School the Sixth Form students are empoweredtoleadtheschool.Theycoordinate assemblies, lead the Houses and take charge of charity fund raising. In return they receive privileges, including a suite of Sixth Form only rooms, individual studiesinYear13andself-regulatedstudyperiods.

A different relationship

TheSixthFormisacommunitywhereteamwork is paramount. Working together in and out of lessons is integral to Sixth Form life.

A lively social calendar marks out Sixth Form life at Pitsford. Anannualball,regularfilmandquiznightsareaugmented by events and activities generated by each individual year group according to their own interests and passions.

Subject options

A level courses are currently available in: Art, Biology, Chemistry, Economics, English Literature, French, Geography, History, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Music, Physics, Spanish,BTechPEandPhysicalEducation.Inadditiontotheirsubject choices, all students will undertake an Extended ProjectQualification(EPQ).

Art

OurSixthFormartisstunning.Technicalexcellence,passionandinnovationarethedefiningcharacteristicsof our students whose work is exhibited across the campus.

Music

Tuitionisprovidedbyateamofdedicatedspecialistvisiting teachers covering most orchestral instruments, as well as guitar, piano, organ and percussion.

School string, woodwind and percussion ensembles perform a wide range of compositions. Our choir performs at many events in a variety of styles and we also have aflute,choir,saxquartetandguitargroup.

Students perform weekly lunchtime concerts and regular evening concerts are held either in the school or at Pitsford Parish Church.

OurmusicianshavetouredTuscany,ParisandVenicein recent years.

Drama

We stage several productions annually including anambitious large musical each year. Recent productions have included Grease, Les Miserables, The Sound of Music, Divorce Me Darling! and Calamity Jane.

Many students take their talents further by joining the local youth theatre drama groups such as Northamptonshire MusicandPerformingArtsTrust(NMPAT).

Everyone takes part in sport at Pitsford School andeveryonefindsenjoymentinphysicalactivityand develops their potential.

Our main team sports are Rugby, Cricket and Football for boys and Netball and Rounders for girls and our teams regularly play against local independent and state schools.

Teamsportsarevaluablebecause:

• Theyencouragearangeofskillsthatcanbetaken on into later life.

• Teamplayerswillalwaysbeabletointegratesocially into new environments.

OurCross-Countryteamrunscompetitivelyagainstlocalschoolsandeveryone,(includingpupils,staffandevenparents)takepartinthe‘PitsfordRun’–anannualHouse Competition that brings the whole school community together.

Basketball,Badminton,TennisandTableTennisaswell as Sailing, Climbing and Horse Riding are all availablealongsideourstate-of-the-artFitnessSuitewithinourmulti-millionpoundsportscomplex.

It is also about developing qualities of leadership, communication, digital literacy, initiative and practising some of those newly acquired management skills. An excellent exampleofthisisour‘RealJunkFoodCafé’project, set up and managed by our Sixth Form to support local charities and provide an alternative to the traditional tuck shop.

Students can develop their musical, dramatic or sporting skills to a high standard, be part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme or organise House, School or charitable initiatives.

We strongly encourage every student to aim at excellence and high achievement for their own personal development, enabling them to stand out and be proud of what they have achieved.

We deliver a true English public school experience to a number of international students in the Sixth Form. We have an excellent EAL department who support students’languageskillsandtheirapplicationprocess for university.

EnglishlanguageentryforSixthFormrequiresIELTS 5.5 or greater. Sixth Form students who have not achieved atleastlevel6.5IELTSorequivalentwillberequired to attend EFL lessons as well as their A level courses.

ThereareSixthFormscholarshipsavailableaimedatpupilswhoshowdemonstratableexcellenceinspecificareas such as academic, art and music.

Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Scholarship

In honour of her lifetime close relationship to Pitsford HallweofferaQueenElizabeththeQueenMother Scholarship.Thisisawardedannuallytoonestudentwhoalready attends the school, is in receipt of a bursary and whose academic progress is deemed to be exceptional.

Keith Duckworth Scholarships

Weoffertwoscholarshipsinhonourofourlatepatron SirKeithDuckworth,co-founderofCosworthEngineering.TheyareforstudentswhostudyPhysicsandMaths, are means tested and allocated on academic merit.

UCAS, university and beyondThemajorityofourstudentsprogresstouniversity after Year 13 and Pitsford School has in place an extraordinary range of support for those applicants.

TheHeadofSixthForm,HeadofCareersand Headmaster have, between them, experience of well over 3,000 successful applications and each student receives individual tailored advice and guidance from them.

Our Sixth Form tutors also provide personal guidance on university and subject choice, as well as help completing the often complex application forms.

We are very experienced in supporting applications to European, North American and Asian universities. In addition, we have a wealth of experience advising on apprenticeships and applications to directly join the work force.
