omore Brooke Bollinger started in the shutout over Syracuse and hasn’t allowed a goal in 281 minutes with four saves and a 3-0-0 record.

THE SERIES• Florida State has won all six meetings.• All six games have come as ACC opponents, with the two schools playing each other every

year since Pitt joined the league in 2014. FINDING THE RIGHT LINEUP• With a team of 21 newcomers, it will take some time to find the right lineup that will help

the Panthers succeed this season.• Through 11 matches, the Panthers have used 10 different starting XI combinations with just

three Pitt players starting every match this season.• The Panthers used the same starting lineup in consecutive matches for the first time all

season against Saint Joseph’s (Sept. 8) and VCU (Sept. 12).• The 10 different combinations have been successful in the early going for the Panthers as

they have produced 15 goals, four more than all of last season.

PANTHER CUBS MAKING MOST OF PLAYING TIME• The Panthers are one of the youngest teams in the nation this season with the 21 newcom-

ers, including a 17-player freshman class.• So far this season, Pitt has started nine freshmen in different spots of the lineup. The nine

freshman have combined to start 56 matches this season.• Two freshmen have started every matches so far this season, Amanda West and midfielder

Mackenzie Edwards.

WEST CONTINUES STRONG START TO FRESHMAN CAMPAIGN• Amanda West has started off her career on a tear for the Panthers as she has notched at

least one point in eight of her first 11 career matches.• West opened up her career with the best debut in program history as she netted a hat-trick

and an assist including the game-winner in the 84th minute as Pitt beat Loyola Marymount 5-4. Her seven points are the most in a game by a Pitt player since 2001 and most in Am-brose Urbanic Field history by a Panther.

• So far this season, the striker has netted seven goals, seven assists and 18 points to go along with three game-winning goals. Her 21 points are tied for the third-most with Roosa Arvas (2014) in a single-season in program history. She needs two more to tie Charity Mc-Clure (1998) for second-place and five to tie Cande Ruiz (1998) for the most.

• With 7 goals, West ranks tied for fifth-most in a single-year in school history. In game-win-ning goals, she’s tied for fourth.

• In assists West is tied with Liz Carroll (2010) for fourth-most and already ranks tied for ninth in career assists.

• In ACC play, she has racked up four assists in three games. She leads the conference in shots on goal (2.36 per game) and is third in shots (3.64 per game), fourth in points and sixth in assists.

• One more assist would tie Arvas (2012) for the most-ever by a Panthers’ freshman.• Earlier this year, West became just the second Panther in program history to earn ACC

Offensive Player of the Week honors and the first Pitt freshman to do so. The last Panther to earn the weekly recognition was Taylor Pryce in 2015 when she was Co-Offensive Player of the Week.

THREE PANTHERS SHARING TIME IN GOAL• Goalkeepers Caitlyn Lazzarini (freshman), Amaia Pena (redshirt-junior) and Katherine Robinson (sophomore) have each started and played

a full game this season.• Pena has seen the most action, playing 636 minutes in seven games started. She’s notched a 2-3-2 record, 1.56 goals against average, 15

saves and a .600 save percentage.• Lazzarini started in back-to-back games with three saves in a shutout win over Saint Joseph’s and three more saves with a goal allowed at

VCU.• Robinson has allowed two goals in both games played with six saves.

OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN• Prior to the beginning of the 2019 campaign, the Pitt women’s soccer team voted on captains for the season and selected senior Juliana

Vazquez and junior Kentucky transfer Hollie Olding to lead the team this year.• Vazquez is a four-year starter up front for the Panthers as she has appeared in 62 games while notching 53 starts over her impressive ca-

reer.• Olding joined the Panthers for her junior campaign after spending her last two seasons of collegiate soccer at Kentucky. The England native

has been named team captain in each of her three seasons in college as she earned the badge as a freshman and sophomore for the WIld-cats. For her career, Olding has appeared in 35 matches while making 23 starts as she has netted four goals and eight points so far in her career.

UP NEXT• Pitt stays on the road to face No. 6 Florida State Saturday at 1 p.m. on the ACC Network.

HEAD COACH • MIDWESTERN STATE ‘81 • 2ND SEASON AT PITTRandy Waldrum enters his second season at the helm of the Pittsburgh women’s soccer program in 2019. He was announced as the fourth head coach in Pitt women’s soccer program history by Director of Athlet-ics Heather Lyke on December 19, 2017.   The legendary women’s soccer coach ranks 14th in NCAA history in career head coaching victories (403) entering 2019 while also ranking sixth amongst active head coaches.

Waldrum put his finishing touches on one of the best recruiting classes in program history this season, his first, as he will welcome 21 newcomers to the program. Of the 21 newcomers, four student-athletes come to Pitt after earning extensive international experience playing for their countries national teams.   Waldrum saw unprecedented success in his tenure at the helm of the perennial powerhouse Notre Dame women’s program. In his 14 seasons, he led the Fighting Irish to two national championships, capturing the College Cup title in 2004 and 2010. His teams won eight Big East Tournament titles and appeared in eight NCAA Final Four games in that span.   A two-time national coach of the year (2009 by Soccer America; 2010 by NSCAA), Waldrum was the first coach in NCAA history to lead a team to a national title in his/her first season with a program. He wrapped up his tenure at Notre Dame with a mark of 292-58-17 (.819) and holds an overall record of 399-108-29 (.771) as a head coach on the women’s side. His record ranks fourth in all-time wins as an NCAA women’s head coach and third in win percentage.

“I would like to thank Heather Lyke for giving me this wonderful opportunity to lead the women’s soccer program at the University of Pittsburgh,” said Waldrum. “I believe in the vision and excitement that she has brought to the Pitt athletic department and I look forward to being a part of that vision. I would also like to thank Chris Hoppe, who led this search, as it was truly professional in every way.   Waldrum joined the Fighting Irish after beginning a program at Baylor, building the Bears into a threat in the Big 12 from scratch. In three seasons with Baylor, Waldrum guided the Bears to an overall mark of 46-14-3 after spending the 1995-96 starting up the program. He was named the Big 12 and NSCAA Region Coach of the Year after a 15-5-1 record in 1998, as the Bears reached as high as 12th in the nation en route to a Big 12 Conference title.   Prior to his tenure at Baylor, Waldrum spent six seasons at the helm of the Tulsa program, serving as head coach for both the men’s and women’s programs from 1989-1994. He led the men to a record of 66-33-6 and the women to a mark of 61-36-9, remaining the winningest coach in both teams’ history.   In his playing career, he was a standout at Midwestern State University, earning all-district honors in each of his four sea-sons in Wichita Falls, Texas. He graduated in 1981 with a degree in physical education and a minor in political science. He moved on to play professionally with the Los Angeles Skyhawks and Indianapolis Daredevils of the American Soccer League.   In addition to his impressive resume in the NCAA, Waldrum also spent time in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), be-coming the head coach of the Houston Dash expansion team in January of 2014. In his three seasons with the Dash, Waldrum coached seven national team players who laced up with their respective countries in the Rio Summer Olympic Games, includ-ing Team USA members Carli Lloyd, Morgan Brian and Pitts-burgh native Meghan Klingenberg.   Waldrum has also served as the head coach of the United States U-23 National Team since 2012, winning the Four Na-tions Cup in 2012 and 2013 as well as the Three Nations Cup in 2012.   Waldrum and his wife, Dianna, have one son, Ben, who current-ly serves on his staff as associate head coach.
