GAME 15 - QUICK HITTERS• Riverhounds SC (6-1-7) caps off its two-game road swing
with a visit to reigning league-champion Louisville City FC (7-2-4) on Wednesday night. The meeting will be the first of the season between the two clubs, as Louisville holds a considerable advantage in head-to-head play with a 5-1-2 record.
• This week’s tilt has the looks of an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object, as the Hounds put their unbeaten road record to the test (2-0-4) against Louisville’s unbeaten home resume (5-0-1). The Hounds are the last team in the East yet to concede defeat on the road, while Louisville is tied with New York Red Bulls II for the most wins on home turf.
• The Hounds face a tough task against the reigning USL champions on Wednesday. In the current era of the USL (since 2011), Pittsburgh is 0-3-2 in its first game facing the league champions in the following season.
• Lou City has been stingy on the defensive end at Slugger Field, allowing an average of only one goal per game at Slugger Field. The Hounds, on the other hand, have played the role of chameleon, recording two clean sheets away from home (NSH and CHS), but also overcoming deficits on two occasions to salvage at least a point (TBR and RIC).
• While capturing a point on the road can almost be considered a positive, the Hounds would like to buck one trend. To date, only one of the club’s five wins have come against a team with a winning record. The Black and Gold have held serve for the most part at 1-1-3, but Louisville might be ripe for the picking as it has blown second-half leads in the final-five minutes in each of its past two match-es.
• The Hounds have a plus-10 goal differential on the season. If the team would stay in the positive double-digits, this would mark the fourth time in club history it would achieve this feat.
• Allowing a historically-low 0.50 goals per game so far this season, the Hounds have understandably acquired their fair share of clean sheets. Leading the league with nine to date, Pittsburgh’s defensive prowess makes up for 13 percent of the Eastern Conference’s shutouts.
• Goalkeeper Dan Lynd has been a part of six of those clean sheets, and not even halfway through the season already has him tied with Trey Mitchell for fourth all-time in club history. At this pace, Lynd may have a chance to crack the top-three by season’s end (Chris Robinson – 10).
• With another appearance, Kevin Kerr will move into sole possession for second all-time in club games played, breaking a tie of 145 with Gary DePalma. Kerr also sits one assist behind David Flavius’ all-time club-best mark of 25 helpers.
