Sendan Center, Western Washington University, Bellingham Public Schools, and Whatcom Community College are delighted to welcome Drs. Robert and Lynn Koegel, the developers of Pivotal Response Treatment, to Bellingham. WHAT IS PRT? Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT) is a comprehensive, evidence-based ABA intervention that draws upon decades of research and treatment of children with autism in naturalistic settings. Dr. Robert Koegel is the Director of the Koegel Autism Center, as well as Professor of Clinical Psychology and Special Education at University of California, Santa Barbara. Dr. Lynn Kern Koegel is the Clinical Director at the Koegel Autism Center and the Director of the Eli and Edythe L. Broad Center for Asperger’s Research. WHO SHOULD ATTEND? The training is designed for teachers, education paraprofessionals, speech-language pathologists, mental health professionals, ABA providers, and parents of children with autism spectrum disorder. PARTICIPANTS WILL LEARN: • the evidence base for PRT and pivotal behaviors that can lead to widespread positive changes in a child’s development; • the key components of PRT and how they can be implemented throughout a child’s day in multiple, natural settings; • how PRT can be used by educators, therapists, and parents to increase a child’s social communication skills and academic performance, while decreasing disruptive behaviors; • how PRT can be used to foster positive interactions with typically developing peers in inclusive settings.
