DescriptionFire dampers represent passive fire protection, designed with the help of compartmentalization to prevent the spread of toxic gases, smoke and fire. All our standard fire dampers are designed and certified in accordance with the test criteria’s EIS according to EN 1366 – 2. A fire damper together with its installation form an inseparable part of the fire resistivity rating. PKIR and PKIS fire dampers are designed for the installations listed on pages 8 through 12. Their installation is described in the User Manual of the fire dampers. The activation mechanisms are removable and are interchangeable, for example an actuator operated mechanism instead of a manually operated mechanism.
Manually Operated Fire Dampers
By default, all manually operated fire dampers are supplied with manual control, optionally with micro switches and electromagnets. In case of fire, the fire damper is closed automatically. Depending on the version, the damper closes either after the melting of the thermal fuse or by means of remote activation through an electromagnet in impulse connection. After the closing of the damper blade, it is mechanically locked in the closed position and can only be opened manually. The actuating mechanism is activated when the temperature of the air in the duct reaches 72°C and the damper closes within 10 seconds after the melting of the fuse.
Actuator Operated Fire Dampers
By default, all actuator operated fire dampers are supplied with an actuator with micro switches, optionally with a power and communication unit. A fire damper can be equipped with a spring return actuator which closes the damper after the command from the building management system, or after the breaching of the thermoelectric fuse. Actuator operated fire dampers are standardly equipped with a thermoelectric fuse, that activates the closing of the damper after the reaching or exceeding of the ambient temperature of 72°C. The actuator power circuit is interrupted and its spring closes the damper blade within 20 seconds.

Design Fire dampers have casings made from galvanized sheet metal. Blades from non-asbestos insulants have a rubber seal for cold smoke and an intumescent seal, that expands in a fire situation.
Material Composition
The product contains galvanized sheet metal, calcium silicate board, fireproof carbon fiberglass, polyurethane foam and ethylene - propylene rubber. These are processed in accordance with local regulations. The product contains no hazardous substances, except for the solder in the thermofuse, which contains a milligram of lead.
Connection of the Electrical Parts
The connection of all electrical parts according to the types of activation mechanisms is described in the fire dampers User Manual (document “UserManual_PKIR_PKIS”). You can also follow instruction for fire dampers on Systemair DESIGN.
Tightness of the Blade and the Casing of the Fire Damper
All fire dampers standardly have class C casing tightness according to EN 1751. On the blade: circular class 3 as standard, rectangular class 2 as standard, class 3 for extra charge.

Dimensions Installation Distances
According to the standard EN 1366-2, the minimum distance from wall or ceiling to the damper body is 75 mm. For multiple crossings through fire resistive wall, the minimum distance between two damper bodies is 200 mm. This applies for distances between the damper body and a nearby foreign object crossing the fire resistive wall. Damper clearances vary from the type of mechanism and their rotation. It is allowed to install dampers at smaller distances as long as it was tested.
For the tested smaller distances, please see the installation method (Wet Installation) and (Installation into a Soft Crossing) in the UserManual_PKIR_PKIS document.

Activation Mechanisms for Fire Dampers
Description
The activation mechanism for the fire damper is part of the fire damper which serves for the movement of the blade between the open and closed position and for detention in these end positions. Activation mechanisms are interchangeable. It is possible, for example, to replace a manually operated mechanism with an actuator operated mechanism and vice versa. All mechanisms have a 3-digit compatibility code which shows which mechanism goes with which damper dimension. In case of activation mechanism exchange, order the appropriate mechanism according to the procedure described in the document “DataSheet_AM-PKI” or use the web tool AM-PKI_selector.
Design
The manually operated activation mechanism is fitted with a thermal-link located under the mechanism base plate. Actuator operated mechanisms are delivered with a thermal-fuse, connected via a wire to the actuator. Activation mechanisms have a lever with bushing on the pin that fits into the damper coulisse, except circular fire dampers PKIR3G with a nominal diameter of DN = 700 ... 1000 mm, which have a mechanism with ball joints. The lever is driven into the closing position with a spring and into the open position manually or with an electromotor in the actuator.
IMPORTANT: Fire dampers are delivered with an order specified activation mechanism by default.
Use this accessory in case of a future on-site damper upgrade.

Coverplates
Description
Coverplates are intended for the fire dampers installation with a fire resistivity up to EI90S. They provide the cover for insulation filling, which can be made from lower density mineral wool.
Design
The coverplates are made from calcium silicate board with a thickness of 20 mm. For circular fire dampers, the shape of these boards differs from the dimension. For rectangular fire dampers, the boards are made of rectangles with a width of 150 mm.

Thermal Dilatation Compensator
Description
This thermal dilatation compensator prevents loads and forces from being transmitted onto the damper itself during standard usage of the HVAC duct system. This compensator is intentionally not fire resistive. In case of fire, it prevents the duct from pushing the damper out of the wall crossing.
Design
The thermal dilatation compensator is made from a self-extinguishing flexible section that is imbedded into a short sheet metal duct part. This duct part divides the compensators into 3 types. Depending on the desired connection, it is possible to choose from circular ones with or without a flange and rectangular ones with a flange. Additionally, both sheet metal parts are connected by wire to comply with static electricity grounding requirements.

Adapter with a Smoke Sensor
Description
Adapter with a mounted ventilation smoke switch LRS 01 manufactured by Hekatron. By using the ventilation smoke switch system LRS01, smoke can be detected at an early stage. Timely recognition prevents the spread of smoke within and through the air system.
Design
For comfortable installation, the adapter body is fitted with a standard Hekatron LRS 01 ventilation smoke switch. This adapter is made of galvanized sheet metal available in a rectangular and circular shape.
The relay in the optical smoke switches opens in case of alarm, heavy wear, disturbance or power failure. The smoke switch LRS 01 has an alarm storage and must be reset to the operating state by a reset (brief interruption of the power supply). The relay contact can switch voltages up to 30 V AC / DC. Power consumption at 28 V DC is 22mA. The enclosure is IP54 certified. Minimum airflow is 1 m/s. Maximum airflow is 20 m/s.

Insulation Cover
IMPORTANT: Only for fire resistivity of EI90S and mineral wool insulation.
Delivered disassembled. Not applicable for PKIS3GA.
Description
For EI90S installation methods “On a Wall and Out of a Wall Using Mineral Wool Segments”, it is necessary to cover the edge of the insulation to sufficiently hold the insulation in place during fire to fulfill the EI90S criteria. Installation methods “On a Wall and Out of a Wall” represent protrusion of the next fire compartment, therefore strengthening the hanging of the damper and the damper itself is necessary.
Design
Insulation covers are made of bent sheet metal in a manner that they can be assembled on-site. It is manufactured for circular and rectangular dampers. Depending on the size of a rectangular damper, the insulation covers are delivered with extra parts:
• PKIS3G is delivered with Promatect boards with a cross section of 60 × 20 mm.
• PKIS EI90S is delivered with a disassembled hanging frame.
