Catering Equipment Preparation and MaintenanceWhere you are hiring temporary kitchens or catering equipment, we have a number of specialist in-house facilities to ensure that your project progresses as smoothly as possible. This includes our specialist purpose built catering equipment test and inspection centre “Kit Heaven”. Each item of catering equipment undergoes a rigorous cleaning, maintenance, testing and inspection process in Kit Heaven before each hire as outlined below.

For permanent kitchens, all equipment is tested and commissioned before installation.

A Turnkey SolutionTo ensure your experience with PKL is as smooth as possible, we offer a complete turnkey solution covering all aspects of your project.

The following four pages outline our complete service offering, as well as the steps that we take with every hire to ensure that you receive a high quality service and product.

1. Catering equipmentarrives in Kit Heaven and is logged in using its uniquebarcode. All of our catering equipment is barcoded, allowing us to track its location and full service history.

2. Once logged in, each item of equipment is moved to a holding area where the level of cleaning and maintenance required is assessed.

3. Catering equipment is moved to one of our specialist bays for cleaning. All loose parts are stripped from the item of equipment and are cleaned separately, while we have a specialist sandblasting room for items that require more attention. With loose items removed, the carcass is left, allowing for thorough access and comprehensive cleaning. The carcass is cleaned by hand with the aid of steam cleaning facilities.

4. Catering equipment ismoved to one of Kit Heaven’s specialist commissioning zones. There are individual facilities to cover gas, refrigeration and electrical equipment. We also have a specialist “hot room” where refrigeration equipment is tested to ensure that it can withstand operating in high temperatures, replicating a working kitchen environment.

5. Catering equipment is sent to the Quality Assurance zone for a final pre-delivery inspection to ensure that it is completely working and clean. To ensure a thorough assessment, each item of equipment has its own specialist test. If an item fails the QA test it is sent back to the commissioning bay.

6. On leaving Kit Heaven, catering equipment is moved to Kit World, our in-house storage facility, where it is held ready to be dispatched as an individual item or installed into a portable kitchen. Equipment is stored in zones dependent on its type and is instantly traceable using the barcode system, which guarantees a quick and efficient dispatch process. Catering equipment is installed into portable kitchens on the Quay, a purpose built preparation and dispatch facility at PKL.

Project Management24 Hour Technical Support For every hire, we assign you

your own project manager or project consultant, who will be responsible for all aspects of your project from start to finish. This includes the management of site surveys and design, through to final unit preparation and organising delivery and installation. This is done to make it easy for you, as you only have one point of contact for all your requirements.

We offer a no obligation site survey for every project if required, meaning that we can assess your site and identify any issues thatmight arise with delivery, positioning and installation of units or equipment. It also gives us a chance to design a facility around your site and requirements.

Site SurveysWe employ our own team ofCAD designers, who have avast amount of experience in designing temporary and permanent catering facilities that can feed anywhere from a few to many thousands of people each day. For each project, we can provide you with a 2D CAD design, and if required an additional 3D illustration.

Design

PKL operates an in-house technical support team to deal with any problems or questions you may have during your hire. Our technical support team comprises of a number of office based staff who can answer any questions or problems you may have, and a team of specialist field engineers who are able to help should anything go wrong during your hire. We also operate a 24 hour, 365 days per year technical support line ensuring that we are on hand to help no matter what time of day.

Commissioning and HandoverAll our temporary kitchens are commissioned on site before the final handover. Our handover process is outlined below.

Handover ProcessCommissioningPortable kitchens and catering equipment are tested and commissioned by engineers onsite before they are handed over.

All PKL engineers are GasSafe and/or F-Gas registered. PKL units and installations meet BS7671:1992 for electrical safety. Larger kitchens are designed with HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) in mind.

TrainingEmployers are obliged under PUWER 1998 (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations), to ensure that staff are trained in the safe operation of catering equipment. PKL provides bespoke electronic handover packs with each hire, which contain easy to read user guides for all items of catering equipment and kitchen units supplied, to ensure their correct and safe usage. The handover packs also contain commissioning information for each piece of catering equipment and pre-delivery inspection information for our units. We can also provide dedicated onsite training if required.

Planned Preventative Maintenance VisitsPKL offers planned maintenance visits for long term hires. In addition, all equipment which leaves PKL goes through a series of engineering safety tests in our unique catering equipment test and inspection facility “Kit Heaven”.

Installation OnsiteContractor Health and SafetyPKL holds a number of health and safety accreditations including OHSAS 18001, ISO 9001, CHAS, SAFEcontractor and Gold Level CSCS. In addition, PKL provides risk assessments and method statements as standard for all installations.

Lift PlansPKL uses lift plans for all lifting operations in order to comply with LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations). This includes lift plans for Hiab operations. Our trained staff plan and supervise lifts and PKL works alongside industry leading crane operators in the delivery of larger facilities. All PKL lifts are completed in compliance with BS7121. In particular, we have undertaken a large amount of work in relation to LOLER Regulation 8, which requires individual lift plans for lifting units into position.

Working at HeightsPKL has invested a large amount of time to ensure regulatory compliance when working at heights. This has included the in-house development of safe working practices and a roof mounted barrier system, which is used when installing larger open plan facilities.

WasteAs part of our ISO 14001 accreditation, all projects are planned to reduce waste and environmental impact. This is particularly relevant to the public sector where waste and carbon reduction targets have become more and more challenging.

Delivery and Onsite InstallationWe operate our own transport fleet and employ a team of installation engineers. This means that when it comes to installing your kitchen or catering equipment, you are in safe and experienced hands. We also offer the flexibility to deliver and install your kitchen or catering equipment at a time which suits you, which can include weekends, evenings or during holiday periods if required.

BS EN 9001ISO9001 is an internationally recognised symbol for quality management. PKL’s accreditation illustrates our effective quality management system and ensures our commitment to quality.

BS EN 14001By achieving ISO 14001, the leading international standard for best practice in environmental management, PKL has established, implemented and operates a continually improving Environmental Management System (EMS). Our EMS is a framework that allows us to consistently control significant impacts on the environment, reduce the risk of a potentially costly pollution incident, ensure compliance with environmental legislation and continually improve business operations.

OHSAS 18001OHSAS 18001 is the internationally recognised assessment specification for occupational health and safety management systems. By achieving this high standard, PKL’s OHSMS promotes a safe and healthy working environment by providing a framework that allows our organisation to consistently identify and control health and safety risks, reduce the potential for accidents, aid legislative compliance and improve overall performance.

SAFEcontractorPKL is a SAFEcontractor accredited company. Under the SAFEcontractor process, businesses undergo a vetting process, which examines health and safety procedures and their track record for safe practice.

CHASPKL has been a CHAS Accredited Contractor since 2008, ensuring that we achieve or exceed the minimum levels set in UK health and safety law. CHAS represents the Contractors Health and Safety assessment scheme and to gain accreditation PKL was assessed upon our health and safety management and compliance.

Gas SafePKL and all our engineers attending any gas related service visit are Gas Safe registered for commercial catering equipment and will receive continual training on current and new practices and ongoing equipment training through PKL.

F-GasPKL is an F-Gas certified company, which is a requirement for any organisation involved in the installation, maintenance or servicing of stationary refrigeration and air-conditioning (SRAC) and/or heat pump equipment containing or designed to contain F-gas refrigerants.

Public Sector Accreditation PKL is an ESPO/Pro 5 registered supplier, meaning that we have undergone apre-accreditation process to supplytemporary and modular catering facilities to the public sector.

Compliance With CDMAll project managers, design managers, and operations staff are trained and work in compliance with CDM (Construction, Design and Management) Regulations.

CSCSPKL holds a Gold CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) certificate. These are given to organisations where over 75% of the workforce holds CSCS cards, illustrating further our employees’ competence and commitment to health and safety awareness.
