PL ALUMNI is registered in terms

of The Non-Profit Organisation

Act,1997

The organisation was formed in

2013 by a group of youth from Dr

Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District

who noticed that there were no

educational activities that youth in

the community could engage in

after school,

The purpose is to instil a culture of

learning and solution driven

entrepreneurship.

We believe in jointly creating

educated, self-driven future leaders

University Application Bursary

Scheme

The average University application fee is R200, and to increase

the chance of getting into university, one has to apply to at least

3 universities. We find in our community, that even if a student is

a high performer, they fail to get into university due to the fact

that they didn’t have financial resources to apply. The university

application fee bursary is to assist the top performing students

with finances for them to apply to at least 3 universities of their

choice (up to R500 each). The students are selected based on

their Grade 11 results and need to have financial needs.

Focusing on the no-fee paying schools, we assist 5 students per

school. We wish to increase this number to enabling all leaners

to be able to apply for university.

University Registration Bursary

Scheme

This bursary scheme if for the crème of the crop, our top

performing matriculates. Focusing on the non-fee paying

schools, we award the top performer from each school

with a bursary of up to R4000 aimed at assisting the

student register into his/her selected bursary.

This scheme should feed from the university application

bursary scheme, however, we recognise that sometime a

student that did not do well in lower grades might put

more effort and perform better than the students under

the application bursary scheme in his/her final year. We

have so far assisted at least 4 learners to register at

Universities.

Partnership with: Enke: trailblazer

programEnke: Make Your Mark (“enke”) is a youth development organisationthat inspires and supports young South Africans who are taking actionon the most urgent social issues.

From the Tswana word for “ink”, enke empowers young leaders tomake their mark on their community, their country and their world.enke participants develop as socially conscious global citizens andinitiate their own community-based development projects, creatingchange on the issues they care about most.

The enke: Trailblazer Program inspires and supports young people tocreate real change in their communities. Participants design and runprojects to address the social issues they feel passionate about.

PL Alumni partnered with Enke in November 2014 by sending 8students from the localVryburg school to get involved.

Student Feedback on the Enke

Trailblazers PartnershipMalefa Dlamini Keenan Joseph

We had to choose negative impact in our

community which you will work on it during the 9

months period given to implement .

I ,Malefa Dlamini saw lack of motivation in children

under the age of 12. I decided to create something

which would keep them busy and motivated . I

decided to make a talent show and basically

specialized in modelling only due to lack of

resources. Fortunately Enke funded my project and

made me 25 t-shirts . Parents loved the idea because

it kept their children away from the streets.

During the program I had my ups and downs . I

sometimes wanted to give up but with all the

technics given at the forum I had to persevere.

I had an amazing time with Enke . I had to learn to be

patient and connect. This has also built my

confidence.

Thanks to PL Alumni and Enke for making it possible

for us.

When I first went to the Enke program I never thought it will play a big role In my life, as it was always my dream .To change my community, we where. Given 9 months to make an impact In our community, I did something for community as well as for my school.

On the 3rd of October we went for theCelebration at Bloemfontein, the celebration was about knowing what the trailblazers did for their communities, as well as the challenges they have faced during their project.

I'm thankful for PL Alumni for all the support as well as Enke for teaching us and guiding us, it shows that we have people who cares about South Africans communities, I will like to be a part of the alumni one day and help.

Annual Interschool Debate

Challenge (AID)

This is our flagship program, which has been running since 2013.AID is meant to challenge the students on general knowledge, teach them public speaking skills and also give them exposure toeconomical, political and social environmental issues.

It is both entertaining and educational as we take the youthfrom the different schools and spend a day debating issues thatare relevant to them. We get to hear from them, and hopefullyunderstand their era better.

The challenge is split into Junior (Grade 8-9) and Senior (Grade10-12), and each year is themed around current and topicalevents affecting the youth. We impact at least 600 learners fromour community annually.
