Pivotal reports serve as “calls to action”
TPSE Math aims to effect constructive change in mathematics
education at community colleges, 4-year colleges and research
universities. The goal of the first phase of the project is to identify
scalable solutions for implementation.
The primary goal of this initiative is to develop a shared vision
in the mathematical sciences community of the need to
modernize the undergraduate mathematics program,
especially the first two years.

Advising
• Functions for appropriate majors
• Encourage ALEKS
• Encourage Supplemental Instruction
• Encourage Corequisite
• In-class readiness tests + parachute options
Challenge areas
Exceptions to success rates • Repeating course • Transfer • Academic probation • Suspicious placement score
Other challenges • Persistence in STEM degrees • Faculty resources • Data to inform decisions • Alignment/transferability of pathways
Timely statewide partnerships
• Develop/implement more appropriate pathways for non-STEM majors
• Develop/implement more efficient pathways for STEM majors
• Improve preparation/support across pathways • Minimize redundancies in coursework • Access and success for under-represented populations • Funding • Data sharing • Faculty development & networking • Online forums and resources
